BE ULTIMATE!![]() We are privileged to play Ultimate in Toronto and we reciprocate this honour through stewardship in the community. We welcome all residents and visitors to be a part of our success. To 'Be Ultimate' is to display the quality of citizenship that is described above, this is one of TUC's core values. There are a number of ways that TUC and its members can be good stewards to the community. Our BE ULTIMATE! program will promote and foster these activities amongst the membership, which in turn will help the environment, 'pay it back' to the City that has been so good to us, and show the general public and our partners what an exceptional Club TUC is. Below are the key programs that we will be running in 2010. We're looking for volunteers to help with these projects, email volunteers@tuc.org. This is a great way to get involved with the Club and truly BE ULTIMATE! Used Disc RecyclingGot used discs that you no longer throw and that take up valuable space? Give those used discs back to TUC and we will donate them to charitable causes. Whether it be teaching Ultimate abroad, mission work, organizations like 'Right to Play', elementary schools in need of discs, or other worthy events TUC will take your leftover discs and put them back to good use! To donate your used discs to TUC, you can either bring them to the TUC office, or we will have a box/bin at TUC tournaments in 2010. Please be sure to donate only discs that are in one piece, age appropriate, and not warped! If you have a cause for which you'd like to receive used discs, contact us! Let us know what the request is for, how many people are involved, and the age group of those people. Disc donation will be based upon disc availability, number of participants, nature of the event, and age group(s) involved, at the discretion of the TUC GM. TUC Carbon Flip ProgramIntroduced to TUC by our friends from the Peterborough Ultimate League, the Carbon Flip program is a green-thinking alternative to the traditional pre-game disc flip. When captain's meet prior to the game, instead of flipping the disc for choice of possession they do a Carbon Flip, which is essentially a car count. The team with the fewest emissions (fewest vehicles) wins the flip. Teams can track their summer season results and submit them to TUC, and win some prizes! View the outline of the Carbon Flip for full details on how it works. This is an optional program for 2010 Summer League, which we hope that many of our teams will embrace. Annual TUC Field Clean-up Day, Saturday April 17In conjunction with Mayor David Miller’s community makeover program and Earth Day, TUC does its part to help keep our City clean. Each spring we visit a local City park and clean it up, giving back to the community and fostering a clean fields philosophy for our players. In previous years we have visited Flemingdon Park, Cedarvale Park, Rosehill Reservoir, and Riverdale Park. In 2010 we will visit Sir Winston Churchill Reservoir, another TUC favourite. We are looking for volunteers to join us from 11am-12:30pm at Sir Winston Churchill Park (meet in NW corner) on April 17. Volunteers will receive point credits towards the TUC Shop or their touring teams, plus you are helping a great cause. If you would like to sign-up and volunteer please email volunteers@tuc.org Team RecyclingEach team will receive a blue recycling bag, courtesy of VC Ultimate, at the TUC Captain's Meeting. Use this bag at your games to collect any recyclable materials and then drop them off in nearby recycling bins or your bins at home. Every little bit counts towards keeping our City and our planet green! |
