30 Years of TUC

30 Years of TUC

2010 represented a significant milestone for the Toronto Ultimate Club, as we celebrated 30 years of Ultimate Frisbee in Toronto. From its humble beginnings with just a few disc aficionados strutting their stuff on Kew Beach, to the thousands of players playing every night on facilities throughout the city, the game of Ultimate has aged beautifully in our great city. In 2010 the Toronto Ultimate Club reflected on the great history of our sport and the evolution of the Club through 30 years. We hosted an outdoor event that featured past and present players and embraced families and friends. We also hosted a more formal 30th Anniversary Event that honoured the pioneers of TUC and introduced the TUC Hall of Fame and its inaugural inductees. We welcomed ALL TUC members past and present to participate in these memorable events. In addition, we unveiled our video documentary on 30 Years of TUC, a must-see!

30th Anniversary Outdoor Celebration - A Day to Remember

On Sunday, September 12, TUC hosted an outdoor event at Sunnybrook Park that was family oriented, laid-back, and open to all. We hosted several 'feature' games as well as a BBQ and some family focused amenities (sorry about the bouncy castle kids, but we hope you liked the face painting and games!). We held some classic feature games as well as skill competitions and even a radar gun booth to see who could unleash the hardest throws (raising over $200 for charity). ROGERS TV also attended and aired two feature games, the Scally's Cup Competitive Final and Big Hammers vs. Monster.

30th Anniversary Gala

On Friday, October 22 we celebrated 30 years of excellence at the Toronto Ultimate Club 30th Anniversary Gala. This event at Steam Whistle Brewery featured drinks and CATERED dining, awards, our inaugural Hall of Fame induction ceremony, and 30th Anniversary Video premier. Not to mention a bunch of other great games and amenities, followed up with The Fires Of performing live, and a DJ/dance party. The evening also featured an amazing memorabilia section that showcased hundreds of t-shirts and discs from the past 30 years as well as old photos, trophies, and write-ups on the evolution of league, the history of indoor league, touring, and the game in Toronto.

Hall of Fame - Inaugural Induction 2010

TUC is hosting its first-ever Hall of Fame Inductions at the 30th Anniversary Gala. Inductees will be entered in 3 categories: Player, Builder, and Special Merit. Descriptions of these categories are below.

The inaugural inductees were announced at the Gala. Visit our Hall of Fame page to see the Class of 2010! They will also be featured on our Hall of Fame plaque in the TUC office.

Selecting the Inductees

There are many worthy candidates for the TUC Hall of Fame. Congratulations to the initial Hall of Fame Committee on its achievement. The committee took painstaking efforts to consider all nominees, balance all opinions, and maintain integrity throughout the process.

Our Hall of Fame Committee is currently finalizing the TUC Hall of Fame Policy for future nominations, inductions, and recognition. It will be posted in the near future on the Hall of Fame page.
