2009 Winter Indoor Season

Please note that TUC Indoor Leagues are 6-ON-6 speedpoint games, game length is ACTUAL time playing - all taxes are included in our pricing. The Winter indoor season includes 3 quality playing locations, all of which boast state-of-the-art sport turf: BMO Field, Hangar, Varsity Centre. All rosters must have a minimum of 10 players and the maximum number of players on a roster is 16. Hat Teams in the Thursday League will have 12 players.

Note that the divisions or levels of play at BMO (Elite/Comp vs Int/Rec) will be flipped-flopped from the Fall Indoor Season. So Int/Rec is on Mondays for the Fall session (Nov 17 - Jan. 19), but is on Tuesdays for the Winter session (starting January 27). Elite Comp is on Tuesdays for the Fall session (Nov 18 - Jan 20), but is on Mondays for the Winter session (starting January 26).

Also please note that where multiple venues are listed (Tuesday Co-ed League), that means you will play games at both venues, it does not mean they are separate leagues altogether.

Winter Thursday Co-ed League at The Downsview Hangar

Our most popular Winter offering is back, at the new and improved Hangar (new fields, nets, and a pub!). The League will feature 2 divisions to create a balance of competitive and recreational play. Captains are selected by the League Convenors and then a competitive draft is held where each captain selects the players to their team, in order. Those who choose competitive but are not selected are drafted to the Intermediate teams. The League will feature a 10-12 week round robin followed by 2-4 weeks of playoffs (14 week season total).

This Winter will be the year of the Horse, for which all teams will be named. Be creative! The winner of competitive league takes home the John Harris Hogtown Winter Indoor Disc Livestock Trophy!

Divisions: Co-Ed Competitive Division, Co-Ed Intermediate/Recreational Division

Dates: Starts January 8 and finishes April 9 (14 weeks)

Game Times: Games will run from 7:00 - 8:10pm, 8:15 - 9:25pm, 9:30 - 10:40pm, 10:45 - 11:55pm.

Location: Downsview Hangar - all games at Downsview Hangar

Status: League is full

Contact: winter@tuc.org

Please note that if you select 'Competitive' it is not a guarantee. The Winter season is usually a bit more selective due to higher participation numbers. Even if you played competitive in the fall, this does not guarantee you will be drafted to a competitive team in the winter.

Sign-Up

Winter 2009 indoor registration opens November 12, 2008.

All players must be TUC members. Membership costs $65 per year and runs from April through March. However, for Winter League we offer a Pro-rated membership fee of $25 for new players. All prices include PST/GST. All players must sign the waiver of liability form before stepping on the field, member or not. Preferred locations, playing partners, and league categories (competitive, recreational) are not guaranteed, however we do our best to accommodate all requests. Rules regarding game play, substitutions, and more can be found on the TUC Indoor Rules page. Team captains must assist in enforcing the rules. Please abide by the Spirit of the Game when dealing with this (and any other game) issue.

Spirit, Safety & Fields

Spirit of the Game is an integral part of Ultimate. In order to encourage teams to play with Spirit, we are requiring all teams to submit a Spirit score as well as a game score after each game. It is the responsibility of both team captains to submit a spirit score for the other team after every game.

Metal cleats are not allowed under any circumstances. Plastic/rubber cleats are allowed at BMO Field, Varsity Centre, and UCC, but NOT at the Downsview Hangar. Running shoes or turf shoes at the Hangar only, absolutely no cleats there! Foot blocks are not allowed except with the explicit prior agreement of both team captains. Any footblock, attempted or successful, should be treated as a foul.

Since field space is difficult to find, the TUC is always concerned about the possibility of losing currently permitted fields. Permits can be revoked if teams engage in prohibited activities or as the result of complaints from neighbourhood groups. Therefore, we remind everyone of the following policies:

  • The consumption of alcohol and recreational drugs is NOT allowed at the fields, whether before, during or after a game. If you wish to engage in such activities, please do so in the privacy of your own home.
  • Use Spirit when dealing with other users of the parks. This means being polite to the people who inadvertently stray onto the field during your game. Also, bring the permit with you to your game to head off conflict with other users of the field.
  • Use common sense and be considerate of the neighbours. This means that you do not pee in the bushes, against the side of a house or in the middle of the field. Also, do not block driveways with your car.
  • If problems arise with fields, such as poor condition or conflict with other groups (e.g. soccer), please bring them to the attention of the league convenor and the fields coordinator. Do not take it upon yourself to solve the problem.

League Contacts

The head convenors for the 2009 Indoor Leagues are TBD.

General questions about Indoor league should be addressed to winter@tuc.org. BMO Leagues have their own contact emails; bmomonday@tuc.org and bmotuesday@tuc.org (Men's League to bmotuesday as well), and Women's Sunday League inquiries can be sent to sunday@tuc.org.  However, in order to reduce the flood of emails to the convenor, if you are a player and have a question about the TUC or the league, please ask your team captain first or contact the appropriate person as listed on the TUC Contacts page. Your team captain is your first point of contact with the TUC when it comes to administrative matters.

Hopefully this provides all the necessary information to get your Ultimate season rolling. See you on the field!

Playoff Notes

  • Playoff teams are eligible to accept substitutes under the following conditions:
  • They are IN NEED of substitutes, meaning they cannot field a proper team. If teams have 6 or more males and 3 or more females (full line + reasonable subs) then they are not in need
  • Substitutes are registered Winter League players
  • Substitutes are declared in advance to the opposing team captain and are agreed upon

For more information please contact your league convenor.
