Save the Toronto Waterfront - Ongoing

Postby -JR- » Thu Jun 22, 2006 10:09 am

Your voice was heard and we stopped the June 1st construction of a parking lot on waterfront property. Unfortunately the city is now in the process of voting on a proposal to sign a 20 YEAR lease that would construct a private parking lot on waterfront parkland.

Not only does the 20 YEAR LEASE grant the Palais Royale Corporation a private parking lot in the waterfront parkland near Humber River, it also diverts city funds of $500,000 from other projects for the initial construction costs and administration fees of this parking lot. Your tax money!

City council votes on this 20 YEAR LEASE Wednesday, June 27th (nest week) so we need as many signatures as possible to present to Mayor David Miller.

PLEASE HELP by going to the following link, signing the petition and forwarding this the link or this email to as many friends as possible.

All we ask is that the city defer signing any leases until public consultations and proper planning has occurred. What is one year vs. 20 years?

The public filed a "Freedom of Information Request Act" last week since the community is not allowed to see the 20 year lease and terms being proposed in this private for profit agreement.

We thank you for your time and help with this important waterfront issue.

Sincerely, - The Petition Committee
