TUC continues to grow

Postby a. » Thu Apr 14, 2005 10:44 am

Somewhere else on the TUC website it states that TUC now has 3100 members and continues to grow.

Considering the quality of current fields and availability of new field space, is this growth a good thing?

Please discuss.

Absolutely growth is a good thing.

For starters, much of the growth in TUC has been in the outlying areas (north Toronto and the west end in particular). So "growth" doesn't always mean more and more teams playing in the core - we are trying to expand our footprint throughout the GTA.

TUC has also targeted its growth towards junior players. By encouraging young players to pick up the sport we create a pool of players to replace those people who move away or retire from the sport. And having ultimate played at schools around the GTA can only help us aquire permits for these schools.

Also, there is a lot of competition for fields and government $$$ by other local sports organizations. In particular, soccer in this city is massive and they therefore get a large amount of field space. As Ultimate grows from a niche sport to the mainstream, we are better able to lobby the city for better facilities
