Random question
Hello all,
I was speaking with a friend the other day about how important tournaments were to the whole 'ultimate' experience, regardless of skill level. I remember when I first started playing I would only ever go to practice and play one night of league (before there was disc in the winter, of course) and the guys on the team could not believe I had never played in a tournament. I was too busy camping with buddies or whatever the F I did before kids.
This obviously changed quite quickly as I became obsessed with the sport and tournaments became one of the best parts of the whole 'ultimate' experience.
But what about now? With the ability to play in several leagues, on every single night. Multiple pickup sessions a week and a professional team that plays one game per day...are tournaments losing their strangle hold on the ultimate experience?
I wonder what % of the playing public (clearly all of the elite/university level players have played tournaments and still do) now, across TUC, TCSSC and whatever other league in the GTA play in tournaments?
Just some random rambling from an old man...back to my stories of Roy Orbison wrapped in clingfilm.
Cheers,

Re: Random question
Hey BJ
I think that it is still quite a bit! Only last year there was a flurry of Touring teams in Toronto:
Coed: Zen, MMV, MaxPower, Quick & Dirty, The Tribe, NoBs, Bulldogs.... add all the women's and open ones and you get a lot of people going from tournament to tournament during the summer!
