Hello TUC Member

Playoffs On the Horizon!

Be sure to have your team REGISTERED for the Playoffs! A Playoff registration has been created to ensure that only teams who want to compete in playoffs are included in the schedule. Starting August 21, Captains can visit the Members Login and sign-up their Summer League team for free playoff action. Registration closes September 5.

PLAYOFF FORMAT: Monday and Tuesday Night Leagues will play on September 9-10 (both days) at Sunnybrook Park. Wednesday and Thursday Leagues will play on September 16-17. The Saturday will feature Round Robin play (team will be seeded based on Regular Season results) and the Sunday will host Quarters, Semis and Finals. Like the Mid-Season Classic, the weekends will feature food and water, free physio, TUC partners on-site and great Ultimate play! Be sure to sign-up your TUC team next week.

Less Than 10 Days Until Fall League Registration!

Playoffs aren’t the only hot TUC item on the menu. Fall registration begins August 24 and concludes September 18 (OUTDOOR) and September 29 (INDOOR). We’ve made a few changes to the schedule and added some more GREAT LOCATIONS, so be sure to check out the website and get registered for Fall League! Also, many of you may be curious to know more about our new Indoor venue, Metro Sports Centre, which will compliment the Hangar for Fall and Winter Leagues. See the write-up below on this exciting new home to TUC.

Hat Tournament THIS SATURDAY!

This Saturday, August 19, from 10 a.m. – 5:30 p.m., TUC will host our last 2006 Summer Hat Tournament. Games will be played at Riverdale Park East, on all fields in and around the track. Registration will take place on site – all you have to do is report to the TUC tent by 9:30am to make it on to a team. Non-TUC members pay a $5 fee to participate. Our last hat tourney was a big one, let’s do it again on August 19!

TUC Summer End Party & AGM

You can’t end the summer without a party! The TUC Summer End Party will take place on Saturday, September 23, time and location to be announced soon. We will also host our Annual General Meeting in conjunction with the party, open to all TUC members. We encourage all members to attend and participate. All TUC members in attendance at the AGM are entitled to one vote. The AGM features a report on Club’s finances, Executive and Board Reports and Election of the Board of Directors. All TUC members are eligible for nomination to the Board.

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT: The AGM on September 23, 2006 will feature an important ratification to the Toronto Ultimate Club’s By-Laws. The Board of Directors is considering a proposal to update and amend the current By-Laws to better reflect TUC’s evolution from a volunteer-only Club to a not-for-profit organization with paid professional staff. The proposed changes to the By-Laws are intended to clarify the reporting and accountability structure for the staff and volunteers. The proposal will be brought forward to the membership at the AGM for approval!

After all this formal stuff, we party! This little fiesta is also in conjunction with the Zodiac Tournament celebration as well. Stay tuned for announcements on the official location and times.

Metro Sports Centre – New Home for TUC Indoor

We are pleased to welcome Metro Sports Centre (MSC) to our family of TUC fields! A few months ago we were convinced by Kass Kassam, CEO of MSC, to check out the GTA East’s largest indoor multi-sport facility. We were excited to find two indoor soccer fields with state-of-the-art SportsTurf, the SAME travel distance from downtown as the Hangar. MSC is TTC accessible (Ellesmere Station), close to the 401 (Ellesmere & Birchmount) and features longer fields and even wireless score clocks!

Partnering with MSC now gives us an East (MSC) and a West venue (Hangar) to host our indoor leagues. We’ll have fields at MSC on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 9 p.m. -¬ 12 a.m. for both Fall and Winter. We’ll still host games at the Hangar on Thursdays, from 7 p.m. ¬ 12 a.m. This gives us better overall time slots then last season, so we hope you enjoy the change! If you have any questions about MSC or the Hangar, do not hesitate to contact us. Feel free to check the new digs at www.metrosportscentres.com</font>

The 9th Annual Zodiac Tournament

September 23-24, 2006
Sunnybrook Park, Toronto

The fall equinox is fast approaching and that can only mean one thing: time for the 2006 Zodiac Tournament. For those of you unfamiliar with Zodiac, it is a 2-day, very spirited, co-ed (4/3) twelve-team hat tournament. Each player signs up as an individual and is put on a team with fellow players of the same zodiac sign. The tournament was the brainchild (and hard work!) of Toronto's celestial gurus Bob Anglin and Brian Parkinson. After the 3rd year in Toronto, it was decided to make the tournament a truly international affair by alternating the locale between Toronto and Rochester. Although Bob and Brian are no longer with the tournament, their spirit lives on!

For more information visit the TUC Events – Zodiac page or email zodiac AT tuc.org.
