General League Info

Winter Indoor leagues use the no-pull, speedpoint format. There are no pulls between points; once the offence scores a point, the disc is placed in the endzone where it's caught and the defense immediately takes possession. Rules regarding game play, substitutions, and more can be found on the TUC indoor rules page. Team captains must assist in enforcing the rules. Please abide by the Spirit of the Game when dealing with any issues.

The ratio rules for our indoor leagues are outlined in the chart above. The Open/Female/Choose system indicates the minimum number of open players and the minimum number of female players required on the field at any given time. The "Choose" number indicates the number of players that can be either open or female (note that for indoor speedpoint, all teams must adhere to the minimum gender requirements for that league, but are not required to match the opposing team's gender ratio). For most of our 6-on-6 leagues, there must be a minimum of two players of each gender on the field at all times (2 open, 2 female, and 2 more of either). For specific leagues such as Parity, Elite, and Masters, the minimum is three players of each gender on the field at all times; for the beach offerings, the minimum is one player of each gender.

NOTE ON GENDER EQUITY:  TUC is committed to advancing gender equity within our community to ensure Ultimate is a space for participants of ALL genders. Sport has traditionally operated with a gender binary framework - Co-ed divisions, Women's Divisions and Men's Divisions. We at TUC understand and recognize that gender is a spectrum, and we want participants with diverse genders to feel welcomed and included. For clarity, TUC wants to remind all participants of the gender roster categories for our leagues for the Winter 2023 season:

  • Woman/Female Roster Designation = Woman, Non-Binary and Two-Spirit: may include women (cis and trans), non-binary players, and two-spirit players.
  • Open Roster Designation = Open, Non-Binary and Two-Spirit: may include men (cis and trans), women (cis and trans), non-binary players, and two-spirit players.

Registration

Please make sure to read the details to ensure you have the most current information.

You may register a full team or as an individual for winter leagues. Remember that you must have an active TUC membership as of the time of the league to be able to register (e.g. registration may open in December, but the league may have games in January, so you would need an active membership in January, not December). Individuals who wish to sign up will be used to form a HAT Team. For Winter 2023, registration will open at 11:00am on Monday, December 11th, 2023 (10:00am on Monday, December 4th, 2023 for the Wednesday Parity League, and close about a week before the league in question starts play, or when specific leagues reach capacity (Wednesday Parity League registration for open players will close at 10:00am Wednesday, December 6th, 2023).  All registered teams/individuals will be posted a few days before league play starts. If you are not on that list, please contact TUC staff at adults@tuc.org immediately.

Be sure to register as soon as possible. This will not only help your chances of getting a spot in the league, but it also helps TUC determine which leagues will have enough registrations to be able to run. Leagues/teams that do not have sufficient registration may need to be cancelled in advance of the league start date. Registration AND payment confirm your spot; if you register, but don't pay, this does NOT hold your spot for the league! Once you've registered, you will have 20 minutes to pay to confirm your spot (if you do not pay in 20 minutes, your spot will be offered to the next person on the wait list). Complete winter team registration includes payment in full by the registration deadline and a minimum of 10 paid members on your roster within one week of your first game. If you have any questions, contact adults@tuc.org.

All players must be valid TUC members (2023 Youth Membership, 2023/2024 Introductory Membership, 2023/2024 Post-Secondary Membership, or 2023/2024 Full Adult Membership). All players must sign the waiver of liability form and be TUC members before stepping on the field. In order to enforce these stipulations, we rely heavily on the honour system and on our team captains. Please abide by the Spirit of the Game when dealing with this (and any other game) issue.

For more information on becoming a TUC member, visit our Becoming a Member page. For assistance with registering a team or as an individual, see our How to Register page.

League Contacts

The convenors for the 2024 Winter Leagues can be found on the TUC convenors page (updated before the league starts).

General questions about leagues should be addressed to the convenor listed for the league in question. However, in order to reduce the flood of emails to the convenor, if you are a player and have a question about TUC or the league, please ask your team captain first or contact the appropriate person as listed on the TUC contacts page. Your team captain is your first point of contact with TUC when it comes to administrative matters.

Wednesday Parity Mixed HAT League @ Monarch Park

BACK AGAIN FOR THE WINTER 2024 SEASON! An open player will be guaranteed a spot in the Parity League if they register with a female-identifying player partner. The female player partner MUST complete their own registration and payment between 10:00 am December 4th, and 10:00 am December 6th.

NOTE:  The open player may forfeit their spot in the league if the female-identifying player partner pulls out of the league ahead of the start date (legitimate reasoning for withdrawal may be subject to review).

For WINTER 2024, the TUC Parity League will be a 6-on-6 format with a 3O:3F gender ratio. The Parity League follows all other indoor 6-on-6 rules, except it incorporates individual statistical tracking, balanced team competition, and social mayhem! Imagine Fantasy Football; only you are actually playing. For each game, player stats (e.g. goals, assists, D's, turnovers) are tracked, and these stats (along with game scores) are submitted weekly. Player values rise and drop based on their statistics. GMs can trade players throughout the season and are essentially forced to do so to stay under the league-imposed 'salary caps.' The end result is more balanced games and even more social variety than a typical HAT league... plus individual Stat leader awards! Registration is by individual only; this season, there will be no co-player requests. If you would like to play with someone all season, you must be a GM and draft/trade for them! During registration, there will be a spot to indicate if you are interested in being a GM for this season. GMs, the player draft, league theme, salary cap changes, and anything else we come up with will be announced closer to the league start date in January.

Open registration for this league will follow a weighted lottery system (female-identifying registration will follow typical first-come, first-served rules). Open roster designation players will have 48 hours to register to play in the Winter Indoor 2024 TUC Parity League (Monday, December 4th @ 10:00am until Wednesday, December 6th @ 10:00am). There will be 18 spaces held, 3 spaces reserved for the convenors, 1 for the stat keeper-organizer, 10 for GMs (5 Open and 5 Female), and 4 Open Roster spots for new players who have never played TPL before! That leaves the remaining 122 spots (58 Open and 64 Female) up for grabs.  The entry lottery will be conducted on Wednesday, December 6th @ 5:00pm, 2023 and the list of players who have won a spot in the league will be announced the following morning (Thursday, December 7th). Those who are not selected will be put on the Waitlist. Since other Winter Indoor leagues don't open registration until Monday, December 11th @ 10:00am, those who did not 'win' a spot in the TPL will have a bit of time to choose other TUC leagues to play in the Winter 2024 season. Good luck, everyone!

Weighted Lottery Details: This Winter TPL season, open players interested in playing TPL will partake in a weighted lottery system. Everyone enters the lottery with their name automatically entered into the draw once. Spirit, Safety & Fields

Spirit of the Game is an integral part of Ultimate. In order to encourage teams to play with Spirit, we are requiring all teams to submit a Spirit score as well as a game score after each game. It is the responsibility of both team captains to submit a spirit score for the other team after every game.

In the interest of safety, the TUC strongly discourages games from taking place on grass fields during poor weather or on soggy fields. If the weather becomes severe during your game (i.e. thunderstorms), be sure to follow TUC's Bad Weather PolicyMetal cleats are not allowed under any circumstances. Plastic/rubber cleats are allowed at Monarch Park Stadium, Lamport Stadium, UCC, and Lakeshore Collegiate Dome, but NOT at the Downsview Hangar. Running shoes or turf shoes at the Hangar only, absolutely no cleats there! Foot blocks are not allowed except with the explicit prior agreement of both team captains. Any foot block, attempted or successful, should be treated as a foul.

Since field space is difficult to find, the TUC is always concerned about the possibility of losing currently permitted fields. Permits can be revoked if teams engage in prohibited activities or as the result of complaints from neighbourhood groups. Therefore, we remind everyone of the following policies:

  • The consumption of alcohol and recreational drugs is NOT allowed at the fields, whether before, during or after a game. If you wish to engage in such activities, please do so in the privacy of your own home.
  • Smoking Ban Bylaw: It is illegal to smoke tobacco within 9 meters of sports fields.
  • Use Spirit when dealing with other users of the parks. This means being polite to the people who inadvertently stray onto the field during your game. Also, bring the permit with you to your game to head off conflict with other users of the field.
  • Use common sense and be considerate of the neighbours. This means that you do not pee in the bushes, against the side of a house or in the middle of the field. Also, do not block driveways with your car.
  • If problems arise with fields, such as poor condition or conflict with other groups (e.g. soccer), please bring them to the attention of the league convenor and the fields coordinator. Do not take it upon yourself to solve the problem.
