TUC Summer Team Roster Deadline – August 1st

Saturday, August 1st is the deadline for final summer league rosters. In order for any player on your team to be eligible for playoffs, they must be a TUC member and listed on your roster as a ‘regular player’ (or captain/coach) by August 1st.

Furthermore, to be eligible for playoffs all players must have played a minimum of 5 summer league games with their respective teams.

For the playoffs we may allow recreational teams to pickup players, so long as they are registered TUC members and it is agreed upon by both team captains. However, the more competitive teams will be required to play with their accurate rosters – we will be checking rosters at the playoffs!

Summer League Playoffs

Every year we hold playoffs for our summer leagues. Each night is treated as a separate division, and teams are divided into power pools of 8 (for the most part) to play a quarter final, semi final and final game. This event is free and optional for all summer league teams, but in order to play each team must register online (registration will open in August). This year Monday and Tuesday night playoffs will be held on Saturday, September 12th, and Wednesday and Thursday night playoffs will be held on Saturday, September 19th. Beautiful Sunnybrook Park will be used to host these one-day, three game events.

Scally’s Cup

We’ll be hosting another Scally’s Cup this year, and we thank you for your all-star nominations – keep them coming! Scally’s Cup is intended to showcase the best players in TUC – divided into competitive and intermediate divisions (recreational players are eligible for the intermediate division). The date and location are still TBA, but we’re hoping to secure a premier venue, like BMO field.

Clinic League Round #2

The second round of clinic leagues started on Monday, July 20th and will run weekly until Monday, August 31st at Sir Winston Churchill Park. Clinic leagues are intended for those who are new to the game or just want to improve their skill level; time is spent teaching concepts and scrimmaging. You can still register for the second round of clinic league – contact the TUC office for more information.

Fall League registration opens August 17

While summer league is still in full swing on the fields, here at the office we are busy planning the upcoming fall season. We are still confirming venues and times; full details will be posted in the coming weeks. You can look forward to league play on four or five nights a week, coed, women’s and open divisions, and centrally located fields – including premier fields (BMO and Downsview Park are in the works, among others). Registration will open on August 17th. Stay tuned for more information!

Ed Kung is the June Volunteer of the Month.

Ed has been helping out with TUC for a long time and is one of our most consistent volunteers. You've probably seen him either on the field playing or off the field with his camera (or both) at almost every one of our events. He has been responsible for a lot of the great photos on our site, in the TUC Layout, and in the Pie Plate magazine. He does not just take photos, though. Ed is always eager to help out in whatever way he can.

Thanks Ed!

Are you interested in volunteering for TUC committees or helping out with player development? Contact volunteers@tuc.org.

Each V.O.M. will receive $50 Scally’s Dollars that can be used towards any purchase at Scallywags.

Summer League Time Caps

The summer nights are now becoming shorter, so please keep an eye on the TUC Time Caps located on the home page. Note there is a time cap for each week – it can be found on the home page and in leaugerunner.

If your game looks like it will go beyond this time, captains should discuss (and agree) on how to end the game. The official ruling is you should complete the current point when you reach a time cap. If a team is then leading by more than two points, the game is over. Otherwise add 1 point to the highest score and whoever reaches that score first wins.

If it gets too dark to play, please stop - tie scores are acceptable!

Pie Plate Volunteers Needed

Pie Plate is TUC’s annual souvenir magazine printed every year to showcase all the happenings at the Toronto Ultimate Club. Every year, volunteers work hard to create a spectacular publication admired by all of the TUC members, and we’re looking for someone to do the same this year! In order to make this year’s Pie Plate the best one yet, we are looking for a dedicated individual to be the pie plate editor. Email pieplate@tuc.org if you’re interested.

This new editor will also need a lot of support from any TUC member willing to help out. We’ll soon be asking for your submissions for the pie plate – from photos to articles, all input is welcome - so start thinking now!
