Volunteer of the Month
for April is Stephanie Salerno
Stephanie Salerno - May Volunteer of the month

Stephanie Salerno is the May Volunteer of the Month. Steph's commitment and dedication to both High School and University ultimate is inspiring to all of us. Steph has been working twice a week teaching clinics in high schools throughout the city as a member of the ODSA/TUC RADD Program Toronto Summer Tour. She still finds the time, however, to dedicate 3 days a week to the Thornhill SS Ultimate Team, where she also volunteered throughout the winter. Steph has done this work quietly and with little recognition until now.

Thanks Stephanie!

Each V.O.M. will receive $50 Scally’s Dollars that can be used towards any purchase at Scallywags.

Pickup on Sundays – Riverdale Park East

TUC offers Sunday pickup at Riverdale Park East, beginning May 25. We have a permit for the space east of the tracks from 2:30pm-5:30pm all summer. All TUC members are encouraged to come down to the field and play pickup!

Congrats to our City Champs!

The high school Ultimate scene continues to flourish, in both numbers and skill level. Recently both the TDSB and YRDSB school finals were held and TUC was there supporting them. Congrats to all participating schools, coaches, and volunteers… and of course our city league champions!

TUC Rain Line – 416.426.7432

If there is inclement weather on the day or your game, call the TUC Weather Hotline at 416.426.7432 anytime after 3:30pm. There will be a date-stamped message indicating whether games are on or not. Program this number into your cell phone!

If games are canceled, DO NOT play them. If games are on (in most cases they will be), then please show up to your game and don’t leave your captain hanging. Captains can assess weather conditions during games and make the appropriate call as well.

IMPORTANT NEWS

TJSL starts this week! This league is for youth aged 18 and under (recommended ages 15-18). It is co-ed, open to all skill levels, and it focuses on skill development and game play. Players can play with their friends and depending on the skill level of the players, we can adapt the leagues accordingly to balance competition and make it fun.

If you can’t make it out this week you can still join up at any time! Tell your friends and come out when you can!

Scally’s Cup

Along with our Mid-Season classic in July (19-20), August Hat Tournament (16), and TUC Playoff Super Saturdays (Sept 6 & 13), we will also be hosting the Scally’s Cup – TUC All Star Challenge on Sunday, September 14 (12pm-5pm). At some point this summer we will be in contact with our summer league captains regarding nominations for ‘All Star’ players within their division. Captain will nominate males and females on other teams that they thought were exceptional players and from our lists we will form divisional all-star teams for each night. Those teams will then compete against each other and showcase the best skills that TUC has to offer. There will be lots of great prizing courtesy of Scallywag’s and our other sponsors. Winners get their name on the Scally’s Cup. There are more details to follow soon, but keep the date and captains start thinking about your nominations!

For a complete list of upcoming TUC events, check out our 2008 Events Calendar PDF and our events calendar on the website.

Mid-Season tournament registration opens June 20. This is a free two-day tournament open to all TUC teams.

TUC Spirit Hat Tournament & Party Results

Almost 100 people participated in our first annual Spirit Hat Tournament on May 31. Amazingly the rain held off and it was an excellent day for Ultimate! The day begin with a Spirit Clinic where we discussed Spirit of the Game including rules, calls on the field, and general game scenarios where Spirit should take precedence. We then soaked up the sun and played some Ulty, with quirky games incorporated to lighten the mood and keep it fun. A yummy bbq and some great prizing followed, courtesy of our Spirit Sponsor Steam Whistle Pilsner.

Thanks to all of our amazing Spirit mentors and volunteers who helped out on the day! Remember to ALWAYS PLAY WITH SPIRIT! For more pictures from the event visit the TUC Galleries page.

Later that night following the Spirit Hat tournament we hosted the TUC Summer Kickoff Party at the Madison Pub. Another great crowd attended and took advantage of the free food and bevies. We plan to host our next great TUC social outing during the mid-season tournament in July and we hope you will join us! More details to come soon.

Sincerely,

- The TUC Team
