Spirit of the Game

The Spirit Committee wants to thank everyone in the league for another enjoyable summer. We made good use of the new and improved scoring system this year, and we look forward to another season of spirited and fun play to come. If you have any feedback on “Spirit of the Game”, or suggestions for ways to improve league spirit for 2010, please contact us at spirit@tuc.org. We look forward to hearing you.

Over the fall and winter TUC will continue to look for a “Spirit Statement” for our league. This statement will be used to promote spirited play in the league; starting in 2010 it will appear on the TUC website, in TUC publications, and be used by TUC players as they help to spread the word. Take this chance to leave your stamp on the league while promoting spirit and winning some free stuff; and help to make 2010 our best year yet!

BMO Field Indoor Leagues Moving to Lamport Stadium

On Sept 30 Toronto City Council unanimously approved a proposal by MLSE to replace the artificial turf at BMO Field with natural grass, thereby impacting the use of BMO Field for our leagues. Under the deal MLSE will spend $3.5 million to install natural grass at BMO Field. This effort would take place as soon as the Toronto FC season concluded. Note: this will not impact our use of BMO Field for current OUTDOOR leagues. MLSE will also spend $1.2 million to move the BMO winter bubble to Lamport Stadium, where existing community usage (ie. TUC and others) would be shifted. In addition, MLSE will pay $800,000 to install a new artificial turf field in south Etobicoke for community use during the outdoor season. This facility should include lights and TUC has been promised to receive at minimum the same number of outdoor hours at this facility that it received at BMO Field in 2009. The location of this facility has yet to be finalized, however MLSE was pushing for it to be at Lakeshore Collegiate. We have requested it be more central. We will update further when apprised. Lastly, there will still be a small amount of summertime community usage permitted on the grass at BMO Field and we are working hard to acquire some of that time for next season.

Impact on TUC Leagues: TUC Indoor Leagues for the Fall 2009 and Winter 2010, as well as moving forward, will now be shifted to Lamport Stadium. The winter bubble used to cover BMO Field will be moved to Lamport Stadium and this facility will operate in the same manner as BMO Field did - our ultimate fields will travel width-wise across the field and the fields should be the same dimensions as BMO Field. Note: TUC Indoor Leagues will still take place as planned. TUC will not be losing any of its indoor hours and nothing will change aside from the location. Lamport Stadium is located at 1151 King Street West, just north of BMO Field on the south side of King and east of Dufferin.

Jason Chan is the September Volunteer of the Month.

Jason Chan is our September Volunteer of the Month. In 2009, Jason could be found at just about every TUC tournament and he was always keen to help out and provide a friendly face. In September he was a key volunteer for our Playoff tournaments; arriving early to help setup, collecting scores, running water, directing traffic, you name it! The playoffs would not have run nearly as well without Jason’s assistance and for that we owe him a big thanks!

Are you interested in volunteering for TUC committees or helping out with player development? Contact volunteers@tuc.org.

Each V.O.M. will receive $50 Scally’s Dollars that can be used towards any purchase at Scallywags.

Summer League Carbon Flip Results

Did your team participate in the Carbon Flip this summer? Inside every captain’s Permit Book there is a chart which we asked captains to use to record their Carbon Flip results. Now is the time to submit those charts!

Even if you didn’t do the Carbon Flip each week, even if it’s not fully complete, we’d like all participating teams to submit their charts to TUC. You can email, fax, or mail it to our head office. Great prizes to be won! Please submit your Carbon Flip sheet by October 23!
