Summer league time caps?
Anyone know the official word on time caps ? For years the end time was specified on the schedule based on sunset, but now all games are scheduled to 830pm and it seems like we're back to negotiating the time cap. So far teams we've played have opted to stick to the 830 end time, which sucks if you ask me..I'd much rather play it out.

I think the problem with having the end time negotiated at each game is that one of the captains is going to think their team has an advantage with the 830 end time, and will opt to keep it. So most games will go to 830, and we all have less game time. I cannot see how that is an improvement.

I did like having the time cap set to sunset, as we got the most use out of the fields. I don't know if that was figured out automatically or if someone had to enter them all in.
I know most of our permits go from 6:30-8:30. Maybe that has more to do with it.
Even under the old system, I always found it best to discuss with the captain when the time cap should be, as some fields (Fergy Brown W) got darker earlier than others (Caledonia).
This year half my night's fields don't start until after 8pm. Not really a fan of that. Or midseason on a long weekend.
Wait, was this the general complaints thread? I'm old and I get lost easily.

Yeah, I had an email exchange with Alex Bitterman about this, and it's because the permits end at 830 and he can't "sanction" playing on the fields past the permitted time. He said he made it clear at the captains meeting that we can still agree to play later.
To me, this just seems like its going to result in more time capped games and less ultimate being played.

This is correct, we cannot formally sanction games to be played past 8:30. It does lead to more time capped games but no legitimate business could run sanctioned programming on fields that they do not have permitted.

Just curious if there has been some kind of complaint or issue with playing past the permitted time..if not, why change it? I sincerely doubt that our legitimacy is being questioned by anyone.
How about this - we go back to the old way of scheduling until 10 mins before sunset, and put an asterisk with a disclaimer at the bottom saying that playing past 830 is "not officially sanctioned".

Is that about what it was before? 10 minutes before sunset?

A fair number of our permits start at 6:30, so if you want more playing time, you just have to convince both teams to show up a bit earlier. This works even better later in the season, when the sun sets before 8:30.
