NoBS Ultimate - New MIXED Touring Team

Postby Big Country » Thu Mar 14, 2013 9:26 am

Introducing NoBS Ultimate. A mixed ultimate touring team starting in 2013. It is a Toronto based team with a unique make up. We believe that ultimate can be played with no BS, no bitching, and no politics. Just fun, experienced players who will go out on the field and just know what to do. We expect to play a mostly local tournaments, and Regionals and Nationals. We are looking to field a roster of players who fit our ideals and who are looking for a team that can’t commit to a rigorous practice schedule but are ready to play some serious ultimate without the BS.
Although not mandatory but encouraged we will be using league games in TUC in place of practices (Thursdays) to work on plays, etc.

We are tentatively looking at the following Tourneys:
Soggy Bottom Bowl (Guelph) – May 4th/5th
Toronto Ultimate Tournament (Toronto) – May 11th/12th
May Day (Waterloo) – May 25th
TUC Summer Experience (Toronto) – June 8th/9th
Regionals (location/date TBD) – July 13/14th
No Borders (Ottawa) – July 27/28
Nationals (Vancouver BC) – Aug 15-18

Please contact us if you are interested in hearing more about the team.

We thought it was time for a NoBS ultimate update with the season shortly upon us.....

1. Who should be looking at NoBS as a good option?
NoBS expects to be a high level team that will be able to compete with anyone. NoBS is right for you if you are looking for a team that works hard with lots of skilled players and has fun instead of politics. It will also be a good option for you, if you want to play with a top team but can't commit to the practice/tournament schedule of say Union (or top mens/womens teams) but still want to play highly competitive disc.
2. Are you holding formal tryouts?
We intend to try and avoid formal tryouts but instead invite people to use spring league and early season tournaments (Soggy Bottom Bowl and TUF) to pick our team.

If you are interested in the team please send us an email at nobsultimate@gmail.com and give us a little information about yourself and your ultimate experience.

NoBS Ultimate 2014

Postby Big Country » Wed Mar 19, 2014 11:22 am

NoBS Ultimate is back in 2014

Coming off a great first season NoBS ultimate found it’s unique philosophy was a successful idea. We are looking to make a few tweaks and come back even stronger in 2014.

NoBS is a Toronto based mixed team with a unique make up. We believe that ultimate can be played with no BS. Just fun, experienced players who will go out on the field and just know what to do. We expect to play a mostly local tournaments, and Regionals and Nationals. We are looking to field a roster of players who fit our ideals and who are looking for a team where they can’t commit to a rigorous practice schedule but are ready to play some serious ultimate without the BS.

We showed we are a strong team making the finals of 4 tournaments during the regular season and competing with the best in 2013. At Nationals we had a skeleton crew but showed great heart against teams that were literally twice our roster size and finished a respectable 10th.

The team philosophy is really geared for a year where Nationals is local and where we can send as strong a team as we sent to other local tournaments during the regular season in 2013 to Nationals in 2014. We are looking to add some more veteran savvy with a mix of youth and speed. We believe we can put in a very strong team in 2014 and improve our Nationals result form 2013 greatly.

A little more about NoBS in 2014:

1. Again in 2014, we are looking to use Thursday night competitive league as a practice where we can work on plays in a game setting. We will work on different strategies as well as putting players in a position to improve skills as needed.
2. We will also be looking to host a few more practices during the year as required.
3. We will be hosting tryouts this year. Details to come in the coming weeks.
4. We are tentatively looking at the following Touring schedule for 2014:
Soggy Bottom Bowl (Guelph) – May 3rd/4th
Toronto Ultimate Tournament (Toronto) – May 10th/11th
May Day (Waterloo) – Late May (1 Day tourney)
TUC Summer Experience (Toronto) – June 7th/8th
Ontario Regionals (location/date TBD) – Mid July
No Borders (Ottawa) – July 26th/27th
Nationals (Waterloo ON) – Aug 14-17

NoBS Ultimate Tryout Info

Postby Big Country » Tue Apr 08, 2014 2:04 pm

We have a quick update about NoBS tryouts.

An open tryout will be held at Downsview Field 1 on May 8th from 7-9 pm. After that we will send invitations for TUF (May 10/11), which will be used as a second tryout, and remaining decisions will be sorted out at another practice/tryout if needed, tentatively to be held the following week. It is important to have our tryouts outside, as indoor ultimate is another sport all together. With the winter / spring we have had, turf fields outside are in short supply so we are happy to have found one. There will be a small fee for the tryout to cover the cost of the field rental.

For those who have not filled out the NoBS Google form (https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1GGOIYRplsxUFLMVGGXF3UZIEKQ98LiRo4sqGv2UTQ4s/viewform), please do so and include whether you are available for the May 8th tryout and TUF. If you will be unavailable for both the tryout and the tournament, but are still interested in playing with NoBS for the summer, please fill out the form anyway so that we can be in touch regarding other opportunities.

We are very encouraged by the all the interest to date and believe we will have an even better year than 2013.
