YARRR 2013 NEW INFO ABOUT TRYOUTS AND SEASON

Yarrr’s 2013 Philosophy
As Durham’s competitive mixed team, YARRR strives to create a positive and fun competitive environment for those who wish to improve their game and compete at a higher level.

Yarrr’s 2013 Strategy and Plan
1. We want to make a competitive team to take to Ontario Regionals in July 2013
2. We want a schedule that is friendly to the fact that people have careers, families and other interests besides ultimate. This is in accordance with 2012’s player’s desires. We will encourage people to attend practices but will understand if a player is unable to commit to the full practice schedule. This year YARRR will be introducing a practice roster. The practice roster is for those who cannot make a full commitment or for those who are not quite at the touring level but hope to be one day. YARRR will call up from the practice roster for tournaments and league games when members of the primary roster can’t attend.
3. YARRR will be entering a team into the TUC Wed night competitive league. Spots will be given to those on the primary roster who wish to play first and remaining spots will be given to players on the practice roster.
4. YARRR wants to be accessible to the Ultimate Community. This year it will be FREE to tryout for YARRR! YARRR will also make some of our practices open to those looking to improve their game.
5. YARRR wants to build a foundation within the Durham community by strengthening relationships. We hope to collaborate and work with the newly formed junior team this year through some scrimmages and fun practice. We also plan to run skills clinics for players new to the sport of ultimate and for those looking to improve their game.
6. We would like to add 2 captains to YARRR’s leadership. We feel that additional captains should be decided by the team once it is made. Nominations and elections will be done by the selected 2013 team.
7. YARRR encourages players to attend all practices, games and tournaments as they are able to. Expectation is that primary rostered players attend at least
a. A minimum of 4 practices out of the 10 and that one of those practices is the practice before regionals, July 2nd most likely (otherwise it is the following Tuesday.)
b. Spring Training, 2 tournaments and regionals
8. Approximate roster size is 16-20players. We want people to get lots of play time when they attend tournament/league games due to the cost of playing.
9. Organized team socials to bond off the ultimate field

YARRR’s 2013 Schedule:
Try Outs: April 13th and 27th 6:10 – 8:10pm at the Civic Oshawa Turf Field

Yarrr tryouts are the first gta tryouts of the year and they are completely free.
Even if you don't think durham is where you want to play, cant make the second tryout or you don't think you can make the team you should still come out its a risk free way to get the first one under your belt.
