Lamest Ulti tourney yet...and it hasn't even started
First I am not asking why.
I don't care why. Nobody does.
It has to be said that it looks horrible on Calgary that all players at Nats this year are paying for field food.
That's right. NO FREE FIELD FOOD at nationals this year.
Nobody cares how much fields cost in Calgary and every time someone complains about the costs or the way we run our tourneys we blame it on the cost of fields.
I am not saying that bringing my own field food to play 4 games a day in the sun is a big deal. What I am saying is that for most people who play in tourneys and are used to field food you should have spoke up and stopped Calgary from hosting Nats.
I don't want to see us get another majory tourney again as this is just stupid.
Ultimate players don't get paid to travel. We sleep on peoples floors and couches to play away from home. Is a freaken bagel to much to ask.
In Calgary it is. So bring your own bananas and we will give you a free barrel of oil as we try to rationalize why we can't have the same ulti spirit of the rest of the country.

But that was out of the organizers' hands. Unfortunate, but unavoidable.
Did you get that thing I sent you?

Greg, that's totally untrue! The organizers could have done something about the fields. In Beijing they've deployed canons into the sky to cause rainstorms to clear the smog. The Toronto Team obviously had access to that technology. . . .
I heard they chose not to, because it would mean the field food no longer be free. Good call guys!
Let's hope the selection of food is good and the prices are fair.
Good luck to everyone heading to Calgary this week. Most of the Toronto teams are not seeded highly - it would be great to have some major surprises!

Quoting CUC2008 TD:
"We are providing free Tim Horton’s coffee, bananas, oranges, and granola bars in the morning."

Quoting CUC2008 TD:
"While the players fees cover a portion of the costs of running the event, they don’t even come close to covering all of it.
CUC2008 is currently breaking even with the generous support of sponsors and the City of Calgary.
Not one of the volunteers associated with CUC is taking an honorarium or any form of payment from the revenues of CUC2008. We are spending all of the money on you, the athletes.
A lot of people have put in a lot of volunteer hours to this tournament. We’re doing this for the love of the sport, not because we want to profit off the backs of Canada’s best Ultimate players."

Quoting CUC2008 TD:
"Early in the planning stages for CUC2008, we surveyed a number of high-level players from across the country about CUC in general. When the question was asked about field food, the response from most players was that the food provided was sub-par, and that supply and variety was not sufficient. When asked about having only vendors, people just wanted to be informed that it was a paid-for service and they would in-fact rather not have to leave the fields for ‘real’ food."

What the heck does "majory" mean?

Hey discman, I gave you my phone number, but you never called. Maybe I'll see you on the fields tomorrow? Are playing at CRU or GAP? By the way, the burritos are delicious. You should try one. We even brought in a cash machine, just in case...
