Tuesday Comp Final Recap

After 5 weeks of great fall weather you just knew we were in for some rain at the Finals... and mother nature did not disappoint. It was cold and wet, and the game got started late between Hammer Hawks and Tony & Carmel. T&C used its experience early to take a quick lead. The sharp rain and cold temperature allowed the ladder leaders to pack the lanes and take away the IN throws, forcing several turnovers close the Hawks end zone. Midway through the first half though, the Hammer Hawks fought back through their female strikers making some great grabs.

In the second half, T&C once again moved the disc efficiently and stretched its lead considerably. It seemed like HammerHawks were dead in the water - but wait! - coach Darren Gray released the reigns and the Hawks began to go over the top. The T&C lead was reduced to 7, then 6, then 5.... and briefly at 4. But Coach Vigar called a timeout and righted the ship. Plus, the Hawks just ran out of time as Tony & Carmel cruised home to a 20-15 win. A great game in the rain!

Congrats to Tony & Carmel, the Tuesday Fall Outdoor Comp Champs.

Monday Rec Final Recap

The undefeated 99 Problems had already won a game over TBD in the regular season and were the favourites heading into the match. With the wind steadily going in one direction (though there was a slight crosswind) TBDstarted the game with the wind at their backs and used that advantage to take a slim lead into half. The second half started out with both teams struggling to consistently work the disc up the field against the wind that has now slightly picked up. The first point of the 2nd half took about 10 minutes when I’ve Got 99 Problems But a Disc Ain’t One made a nice 30 yard huck down the line to break the scoreless streak to cut into TBD’s lead.

TBD managed to maintain lead throughout the second half until about 2 minutes remaining in the game where 99 Problems stepped up the pressure and scored successive points to tie the game with with less than a minute remaining. After several turnovers from both teams and with under 20 seconds remaining in the game, TBD capped off a final drive with a 20 yard cross field hammer that found a wide open receiver in the back of the endzone for an 11-10 win.

Congrats to TBD for being the 2011 TUC Monday Fall Outdoor Recreational League Champions.
