Spirit Committee Members Needed:

Does playing Ultimate get you excited? Does your enthusiasm last after the game is over? If you enjoy amping up your teammates (and even opponents) then we have an opportunity for you. TUC is looking for volunteers for the Spirit Committee, to help promote Spirit of the Game across the league. We are looking for people who can help us by:

  • Creating fun, original messages about Spirit for the league... and anyone else that will listen
  • Sharing their enthusiasm and experience with other members
  • Working with the committee to help deliver league strategies for promoting Spirit and using their talents to and insight to provide direction
  • Spreading the word at League events

We’re looking for volunteers who can contribute an hour or two each month to provide their passion, skills and ideas. It doesn’t matter if you’re new to the game or have been playing for decades; if you’ve got Spirit and want to share it we want to hear from you. Email or contact Joseph Krengel for more details or to volunteer.

Be sure to visit our Partner Pub Pages to see what type of deals you can get across the city.

Welcome to another exciting season of Summer League! Remember to ALWAYS PLAY WITH SPIRIT and enjoy this great game and all that the Toronto Ultimate Club has to offer. A reminder to all players:

  • Click on ‘My Games’ on the site (you must be logged in) to see your schedule, as well as team and league info
  • please do your best to be at your games on time. Most games are scheduled to start at 6:30 PM. Be sure to verify your scheduled start time.
  • when in doubt due to weather, check the TUC banner at 3:30pm on the website. We’ll either post a ‘Games Are On’ blurb below the banner, or we’ll post a big ‘Games Are Canceled’ banner when we choose to cancel games.
  • always bring a light and dark t-shirt in case you need to switch colours
  • bring lots of water and stay hydrated!
  • respect the fields and those in the community: you represent our great Club!
  • feel free to check our Captains Meeting presentation
  • did we mention play with Spirit? Show respect to your team and your opponents. Don’t argue or fight, but rather call or contest... and try to be nice about it! If you aren’t sure of the rule, back to thrower and play on, and discuss it during a break.

Games will be typically be scheduled in 2-3 week chunks. This allows for our wager ratings ladder system to more evenly balance team competition. Don’t worry if you don’t see your July game yet, just plan on playing on your night and the games will keep coming!

On selected Fridays throughout the summer TUC will be hosting pickup Ultimate Frisbee at Upper Canada College from 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM.

Players of all skill levels (even if you haven’t played before) are welcome and encouraged to attend. This is a great and fun way to learn the game, work on your skills, get a little exercise and to meet new people, including your fellow TUC members. After working up that sweat on the field head down to a local establishment for food and drinks.

For more details and dates visit our Friday UCC Pickup news article on the website.

Also every Sunday after at 2:30 PM TUC will be holding informal pickup at Riverdale Park East. This is free to all and players of all skill levels are encouraged to come out.

Traditional TUC Summer League runs from Victoria Day Monday through to September (16 weeks). This year we are offering a shorter version of summer Ultimate league for those who don’t want such a long season, or who didn’t get their team organized in time. The Summer Regional Leagues will be offered on Monday and Thursdays evenings, starting the week of July 4-7. Each weeknight league will be intermediate-level, co-ed, 7-on-7 regular format Ultimate league, with basically the same rules and regulations as our traditional summer. Games will go to 15 points (or till dusk) and games will start at 6:30pm. The leagues will last 8-9 weeks with a guarantee of 8 games. We will not host games on holiday Mondays (Aug 1 or Sept 4). Playoffs for these leagues will take place during the 8-game season, with the last 2 weeks being the playoffs.

On each night we will have 3-4 REGIONAL LOCATIONS where you will play all of your games, so you’d be playing in the same area every week! The locations are:

Membership discs were distributed at the Captains Meeting, for all players who were confirmed on their team rosters by May 18. Look for your captain who should be distributing packages. Note if you play on multiple teams only one captain has your package (the earlier night of the week). If your captain does not have a package for you, you can pick yours up at the TUC office (Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm) or upcoming TUC events.

During this past Winter Indoor League, TUC member Ron Johnson started a small donation drive for the Tsunami relief efforts in Japan. He would bring a bucket to the field and leave it on the sideline, asking fellow players to make any contribution big or small. This generous act inspired many to donate. In April, the TUC Board of Directors voted to match Ron’s efforts 4-to-1, and the Club has sent a donation to the Red Cross. We have also offered to send 100 discs overseas to the Japan Flying Disc Federation (JFDA), to assist those ultimate players who have lost all of their personal belongings. The JFDA is very appreciative of the offer and the donation (we are currently awaiting word on shipping the discs).

Thanks to Ron for his generous act and to those who donated to the relief effort!
