FALL INDOOR BEGINS THIS MONDAY, LIMITED SPOTS STILL AVAILABLE

The fall indoor ultimate season at Lamport Stadium begins this Monday and runs until the end of January 2012. The UCC Sunday Indoor league will begin starting November 27th. If you want to play fall indoor league there are still some limited spots available for both male and female players (all team spots are full), check out the fall registration update page on the website to see if there is something that works for you.

October Volunteer of the Month – Gregory Lang

Gregory Lang is the October 2011 Volunteer of the Month for TUC. Chances are, if you've played Ultimate for at least a few years then you have run into Greg on the field. A longtime member of TUC, he has participated in both league and every Canadian National Championship for over 25 years straight! This year, Greg has been very active on the TUC Board of Directors and Lands Committee. He serves on multiple Board sub-committees and has assisted the Club with its strategic planning. In October, Greg has been working diligently behind the scenes to ensure that TUC places the membership as its number one priority.

A big thanks to Gregory for all his help this month and throughout the year!

WINTER LEAGUE REGISTRATION OPENS ON MONDAY NOVEMBER 14TH

Winter Indoor Leagues begin in January 2012, and online registration for these leagues will open this coming Monday, November 14th. Both team spots and individual spots fill quickly so don't miss your chance to play some great indoor ultimate this Winter. The Winter indoor season includes high quality playing locations, all of which boast state-of-the-art sport turf: Lamport Stadium, Downsview Hangar, Varsity Centre, Upper Canada College, and new in 2012 LCI Sports Centre.

Please note that TUC Winter Indoor Co-ed Leagues are 6-ON-6 speedpoint games, 4:2 male: female gender ratio on the field (except Monday Elite/Competitive which will be 3:3 this year and single gender leagues).

All players must be valid TUC members in addition to paying league fees. For players joining TUC who do not yet have a valid membership we offer a Winter Pro-Rated membership for $30. 2011 VOLUNTEER RECOGNITION AND TOURNAMENT

2011 TUC Volunteer of the Year - Craig Stephen

TOP VOLUNTEERS

TUC would not be able to run without the commitment of many amazing volunteers. 2011 saw some terrific contributions from volunteers and on October 21st at the inaugural Captain's Dinner several of the year's top volunteers were recognized. Our 2011 Volunteer Of The Year was Craig Stephen. Other recognized volunteers included Matt Denton, Alan Cheung, Ivan Peng and Kaity Williams. All of the volunteers were awarded amazing Steam Whistle prize packages. To read more about the contributions of these volunteers please see the article on the website.

VOLUNTEER TOURNAMENT

- We appreciate the volunteer work done by all TUC members and want to reward you by hosting a free tournament. On Saturday November 26th from 4-7pm, TUC will be hosting the 2011 Volunteer Tournament, indoors on the turf at Lamport Stadium. This will be free participation for anyone who has indeed volunteered in 2011. If you've done some work that we may not know about you are still eligible. Email volunteers@tuc.org to let us know what you've done. Tournament teams, theme and further details will be released shortly. We will be going to a local pub as a group following the games at 7pm for drinks. If you are interested in playing in the tournament please email admin@tuc.org to reserve your spot.


Matthew BrownTUC WELCOMES A NEW MANAGER

The TUC welcomes Matthew Brown to our management team! Matt has transitioned into the role of Administration & Events Coordinator this fall and he has been an excellent addition to the Club so far. His primary roles will be to coordinate TUC events, registration and customer service, and volunteerism with the Club.

Matt is a graduate of the George Brown College Sport Marketing Program as well as Dalhousie University. He joins TUC with an extensive background in sports events, including the Canada Cup Floorball Championships, The Ride to Conquer Cancer, Toronto Marlies Game Day, and several other hockey festivals and tournaments. Matt was the Operations Manager for Grassroots Floorball Inc. which involved executing leagues and tournaments across Ontario as well as being the administrator for a small sports business. He is passionate about sports and is looking forward to his next sporting conquest, the game of Ultimate! We are excited to have Matt on the team for 2012!

WEDNESDAY COED PICKUP AT UCC

Starting November 23rd Wednesday Pickup will be coming back to Upper Canada College, all skill levels welcome. Games are played in the campus dome at Upper Canada College which features premier sport turf (and free parking). Players register individually on the BBS thread after 12pm noon on the day of the game. There will be an on-site convenor each night and you MUST pay the convenor $10 per night, prior to participating. The convenor will establish teams and the game begins!

Dates: Wednesdays starting November 23rd (each week is optional)
Game Times: Games will run from 8:00 - 9:00pm
Location: Upper Canada College (All games)
Cost: $10 per player per game

Player Limit/Signup: limited to the first 18 men and 10 women who sign up on the TUC BBS. The BBS signup will be posted around 12pm noon on each day of pickup. You cannot signup your friends, only yourself. Please check-in (and pay) with convenor(s) on site.

FALL OUTDOOR SEASON CONCLUDES

2011 TUC Monday Fall Outdoor Recreational Champ - TBD The Fall Outdoor season came to a conclusion on Thursday November 10th as the two top teams from regular season play, Rahhhh (7-0) and Warriors (6-1), squared off for the 2011 Fall Outdoor Thursday Intermediate League championships on a chilly evening at Cherry Beach. The game saw lots of highlight (and lowlight) plays from both teams with Rahhhh prevailing as the winner to cap off another fantastic fall outdoor season.

JUNIOR FALL LEAGUE FINALS

Care Bears takes home the first ever Toronto Juniors Fall League championships.

Every Sunday afternoon from 12-2 pm the Toronto Juniors Fall League (TJFL) saw 4 teams take the fileds of Lawrence Park C.I. to participate in TUC's first ever junior's fall league. The teams (Strangers, Care bears, Twinkles and Underdrive) played 5 weeks of regular season games followed by a playoffs which took place on November 6th. The teams played a set of semi final games with the winners facing off in the finals with Care Bears prevailing as the first ever TJFL finals.

Congrats to Care Bears for win and to all participants who made the season such a huge success. Also a very big thank you goes out to all the TJFL coaches for their hard work and efforts.


JUNIOR GIRLS ULTIMATE PROGRAMME

 

2012 Clinic Series

For the second straight year the Toronto Ultimate Club (TUC) will be hosting a Junior Girls Ultimate Programme (JGUP) which will run indoors this winter in the gymnasium at Central Technical School. The primary goal is to increase the number of girls playing ultimate in Toronto by teaching Spirit of the Game, rules, basic skills and strategies in a single-gender setting. Participants will be equipped to become leaders on their school and club level teams. The program is aimed at beginners, and will run for 8 weeks, with separate sessions for middle-school (i.e. grades 6-8) and high school aged girls (i.e. grades 9-12).

Experienced coaching will be provided by players from Toronto’s top women and mixed touring teams.

Session A: 11 to 13 yrs (ie. Grades 6-8)
Session B: 14 to 18 yrs (ie. Grades 9-12)

Dates: Saturday afternoons January 14th – March 3rd, 2012
Time: Session A 2:30 pm - 4:00 pm, Session B 4:00 pm - 5:30 pm
Location: Gymnasium at Central Technical School (725 Bathurst St.)
Costs: $30 for a Junior Member, $35 for a Non Member
Capacity: 20 players in each session
