ULW – The Ultimate Team Getaway
This is the ULTIMATE warm-up (AND PARTY!) for your TUC team. From May 18-21, Ultimate Long Weekend (ULW) will be held at Olympia Sports Camp in Huntsville. It’s an adult co-ed tournament that is open to TUC teams, mixed touring teams, and other teams from across the nation…. that’s right, from across the nation…. we have a team from Newfoundland attending!!!!

Here’s a running journal from your wild weekend at ULW:

Friday Night – you and your teammates cram into a car after another grinding day at the office and head in the general direction of NORTH. You banter about your week and the doldrums of your cubicle-based life… then suddenly you realize there are fewer cars around and the air you are breathing feels so much cleaner… you are instantly energized for the weekend.

You arrive at Olympia Sports Camp only a few hours later and realize as you pile out of the car that you have just learned so much about your teammates, and the games haven’t even started! You quickly drop off your bags in your cabin and head over to the Recreation Hall, where free beverages and other friends in Ultimate await your arrival… the night is just getting started!

Saturday – feeling a little groggy and not remembering how you slumbered into bed last night, you arise to a sunny morning with a great view of the lake. The mess hall breakfast brings you back to life and before you know it, you’re throwing the disc around in the crisp morning air. The day is magnificent; great Ultimate, great Spirit, and other games like disc golf, basketball, and volleyball take place as well. A few more meals and ‘bevies’ gobbled down, some physio for that aching hamstring, and you feel like a million bucks.

Saturday night is too hot to even write about in this column. While some of your teammates prefer a relaxed game of cards in the cabin or a movie in the board room, you decide to split up your night between a raucous campfire gathering, an out-of-control board game in the Recreational Hall, and then a seriously late-night cabin party that is beyond wild!

Sunday – repeat Saturday. You are really enjoying the extra game experience you are getting with your teammates and how well you are getting to know them. What their tendencies on the field are, the life stories they share at the lunch table, how unique and entertaining everyone actually is. Sunday is capped by an exciting skills competition final.

Monday – a relaxed morning where you throw the disc around with some new friends and take advantage of the park’s amenities. You watch the finals of the tournament, then pack up your stuff and drive back to the big smoke, remembering all the moments from this exhilarating weekend. The best part is, this is just the beginning of what may be the best summer yet!

For more information on ULW visit our information page. Registration is now open.

Be Ultimate! City Clean-up Day April 21

On April 21 the good ‘ol TUC Clean-up Crew will be back to participate in Mayor David Miller’s community makeover program. Last year we removed 10 bags of garbage from Flemingdon Park and the local residents were greatly appreciative. This year we are looking for volunteers to join us from 10am-12pm at Cedarvale Park on Saturday, April 21. You don’t have to stay for the whole time, but we’d ask that you help contribute to our field cleaning effort. Volunteers will receive point credits towards the TUC shop or their touring teams. To sign-up as a volunteer for this event email volunteers@tuc.org

Sincerely,

The TUC team
