Summer Team Captains Poll

The TUC Staff and Board of Directors are proposing a change to our summer league playoff format and we need our summer captains to respond! Emails were sent to all 2007 Summer captains on January 29 – if you were a summer captain and did not receive the email, please let us know. We ask all captains to please read and reply by February 10!

BMO Winter League Update (Date Changes in March/April)

BMO/Varsity Winter Leagues begin next week, February 11 and 12!  A reminder to all players to please stay off of the fields prior to game start times and please leave the field promptly at indicated game finish times.  Captains are responsible for setting the time clocks accordingly.  Good luck to all teams and remember to play with Spirit!

IMPORTANT GAME CHANGES:  We have recently received notification from BMO Field that the dome will be coming down on April 6!  As a result, our last 2 weeks of play April 7-8 & 14-15 at BMO Field have been erased.  The only available times to complete our games are Friday and Saturday evenings, so we’ll have to make due!  Therefore in weeks 7 and 8 (late March and early April) most teams will be playing TWO games on TWO nights of the week, to ensure that we still complete the 10-game season.  We realize that these are not favourable times, but there is no alternative option.  We apologize for the inconvenience and want to share the dates with you 7 weeks in advance so you can book off the dates:

Friday, March 28, 9pm-12am, BMO Field: 1st round of playoffs for Monday Co-Ed Competitive and Intermediate Divisions (make-up for loss of April 7)

Saturday, March 29, 7pm – 11pm, BMO Field: 1st round of playoffs for Tuesday Co-Ed and Men’s League teams (make-up for loss of April 8)

Monday, March 31, 9pm-12am, BMO Field: 2nd round of playoffs for Monday Co-ed Competitive and Intermediate Divisions (last Monday at BMO)

Tuesday, April 1, 9pm-12am, BMO Field: 2nd round of playoffs for Tuesday Co-Ed and Men’s League teams (last Tuesday at BMO)

Friday, April 4, 9pm-12am, BMO Field: Final games for Monday Co-Ed Competitive and Intermediate Divisions (make-up for loss of April 14)

Saturday, April 5, 6pm-10pm, BMO Field: Final games for Tuesday Co-ed and Men’s League teams (make up for loss of April 15)

Monday, April 14, 9:30pm-11:30pm, Varsity Centre: Final games for Monday Elite Division

In lieu of this inconvenience to teams and players, all team captains will receive a $100 rebate cheque towards their team fees and all hat team players will receive a $10 rebate cheque towards their individual fees, to be issued next week.  We hope this helps offset any perceived loss in value.   Unfortunately after repeated attempts we were unable to procure any discount or more preferable times from BMO Field management.  However, the bookings group for BMO Field has assured us that this will not be repeated next year (rental times will be fixed) and as a small consolation they are pursuing other opportunities for TUC.  We thank you for your understanding.

*Please note that the Monday Elite Division will still play 10 weeks, with the last 3 playoff games of the season at Varsity Centre.  Teams will therefore receive less regular season games at Varsity Centre in order to fairly balance seasonal field sharing.

BMO Fall Indoor League Champions

Our BMO Fall Leagues concluded on February 4 & 5 and a big congrats go out to the following winners:

Sofa King (We Taught It) captured the Monday Competitive Co-Ed League Title with a hard-fought victory over Monster.

Big Hammers (Bang Time!) completed their undefeated season in the Tuesday Co-Ed League with a victory over Hustle.

Young Punks beat Mr. Men to win the Tuesday Fall Men’s League.

All league Tier 1 champs will have their names emblazoned on the new ‘Jim Lim’ Fall Indoor Disc Leagues Trophy. The trophy is named in honour of long-time volunteer Jim Lim who was a founding father of TUC and an instrumental contributor to TUC’s growth and success.

Starting THIS THURSDAY, TUC is offering FREE indoor pickup to its members on Thursday nights in February. Games will take place at the Downsview Hangar (Fields # 3 & 4) from 11pm – midnight. Free pickup runs from February 7 - 28. Come on out and shake off the winter rust!

CUPA: There is currently a vacant CUPA board position for the Ontario region. Additional information is available on the CUPA website and all interested applicants are welcome. CUPA is also currently seeking bids to produce a National E-Newsletter on Ultimate. An RFP is posted on the site and they could use your help. Visit the CUPA website at www.canadianultimate.com

Also the CUC 2008 organizing committee has started up a new Facebook group to keep you in the loop for this year’s Nationals in Calgary, August 14-17. Here’s the link.

ODSA: Congratulations to Christopher Lowcock who has been hired as the new Executive Director for the Ontario Disc Sports Association! Chris was formerly TUC’s GM and was the key figure in starting up the PSO, gaining PSO status, and running the initial operations of the ODSA. Chris’ smooth transition into the role of ED from President should help to get the ball rolling (or discs flying) on many upcoming initiatives. Visit www.ondisc.org for the latest in Ontario Disc Sport news.

Duplicate Team Names Now Allowed

At long last, our mighty Webmaster has updated the website to allow for teams to enter the SAME team name for multiple leagues.  You can’t enter the same team name twice for one league, but you can now enter the same team name for different nights or different events.  If you are a captain and want to change your team name, go to My Games and find your team, and then click on the ‘edit team’ link in the menu.  If you want to change the name of a historical team (old team results are now filed historically), contact webmaster@tuc.orgA big thanks to Webmaster Greg Schmidt who continues to revolutionize our site!
