Still no playoff schedule for Sept 6-7!?!?

I know that my Tuesday team is playing on Sept 6th, but apparently we still don't know when we are playing. It is 2 days before the event, you would think we would have some idea by now. Any hints from TUC regarding when we the big secret will be revealed ?

There are many factors that TDs try to take into account, several of which are dependent on (insert adjectives) people. Simply figuring out how many and which teams are playing can be tricky to dial in. Traditionally, schedules are posted 32-8 hours before first game. I'd guess at Friday noon for the first draft.

As mentioned in a FAQ somewhere, plan to be at the field for first game, and enjoy sleeping in if you are lucky.

I do think that it's cutting it a bit close. This is not a typical tournament weekend where everyone has carved out the whole two days to play ultimate. I'm guessing some people are going to try to work the 3 games into whatever else is planned for either Saturday and/or Sunday and not knowing whether those three games will be first thing in the morning, in the middle of the day, or into the evening makes that planning a bit harder.

The Saturday schedule is coming in the next couple of hours! The Sunday schedule will be posted Friday morning, possibly tonight. The guys have been working frantically the last few days to finalize teams and sort out any roster sub issues. Thanks for your patience!

As communicated, teams and players should be planning to attend the entire day as this is a tournament. Games can start as early as 8am and end as late as 7pm. That said we do try to prevent teams from being there the entire day. We hope to have the Sunday schedule out very soon. Unfortunately we've experienced a few more team dropouts which has required our staff to revise the schedule further.

The problem with this is that the structure changes depending on how many teams are playing (e.g. in a 9 or 10 team pool, you need pre-quarter play-in games), so when teams are still dropping out at almost the last minute, even the structure is in flux, and whole divisions might need to be moved around to get the new requirements to fit into the fields we have available. In other words, it's not simply a matter of filling in the team names, though even that can't be done too early, as results from games played this week can affect seeding, and some games still aren't finalized...

Yes, it sucks. Yes, it can mess with your roster when you have people that are available only at certain times and you don't know until schedules are out (well after the roster deadline) whether you will need to get subs. And yet, any other solution is going to be worse.

Would it be possible to establish and post general times for each night? It seems to me that Monday is playing Saturday morning/afternoon. Tuesday is Saturday afternoon/evening. Wednesday is Sunday morning/afternoon. Thursday is Sunday afternoon/evening. If this is the case most years, it would be good to post this information earlier. This way people wouldn't have to set aside the whole day from 8AM to 7PM and captains would be able to get better answers from their players on availability.

BTW, I know the schedule makers work really hard on this and we all appreciate the work. Kudos!

I haven't had to do this kind of scheduling, but if you look at the result, it seems clear that it's basically a big jigsaw puzzle, except that you don't know the size and shapes of the pieces in advance. If we had lots of extra fields, then it's easy to set this up in advance. But, for example, Monday Int has 8 teams while Tuesday Int has 9. If those numbers were reversed, then they might have to swap the position of those two brackets in the schedule in order to make things work out.

Though I agree it's nice to have the guideline, I fully understand why TUC would not want to publish something like this in advance (and I know they have for the playoff reschedule). The issue with posting it, is that now, if / when it changes, despite the fact that they have clearly said "Please note that this is a general guideline for the day; the final schedule will be dependent on the number of teams.", you can guarantee that they will get a ton of emails / calls from people complaining about it changing, and not sticking to what was posted on the site. People don't read, and people will complain, no matter what.

So personally, though I agree that it's nice to know a rough schedule, I fully understand and support TUC not publishing it until it's finalized. If you have ever tried to schedule a tournament, or even schedule for a league, you will understand the amount of work involved, as well as the emails that one receives if things aren't exactly the way someone expected it to be...regardless of how many warning you might give that it's not finalized.

Anyway...just wanted to say thanks to TUC for all of the work involved, and for making this still happen.

Thanks again for everyone's patience and understanding. Note there is forecast for some rain tomorrow (woo-hoo!), however the forecast indicates no rain leading up to the tournament. We hope that there will not be issues with running the tournament this time and that we will not get a massive system like last Friday/Saturday. Anticipate that all games (including All-Star games, Legends vs TJSL All-Stars) are ON tomorrow. We will try and post something early in the morning to confirm as well.
