Bookmarked, so I can visit it many, many times every day.

And a completely random question that I've heard asked a bit: how come our TPL games were offset by 30 minutes? Is it a Monarch thing?

First a shout out to webmaster Schmidt who has been grinding tirelessly the last few days to debug the ability for some of us to post. Thanks Greg!

Quick update on the season long betting, it's still early days but Kirk and Denton are leading with 62.5 points. Lawrence in 3rd with 57.5, Loat at 52.5, Hin at 47.5 then the pack of Nantana, Murl, Norm and Dee at 37.5, then finally Warren at 32.5

For trades, 7 people leading the league with 2 trades in 2 weeks. Countless who have not been traded.

Finally, it's not the same TPL without 2-time reigning champion GM and career hammer leader Lex Loather in the league. Currently 2 guys have yet to play a game...

Big thanks to Webmaster Greg for bring back the BBS.
Thought I'd bringing back some TPL spread betting and predictions.

WarManda's Superfriends vs Joel's Justice League.
Both come off low scoring efforts for a loss. Warren's upgrades look to take this.
Warmanda -5.5

Kaptain America vs Soupcanman
Hard to rank the Kap. Tough week 1 loss, though missing her 1st rounder, The Mercerless Will, then a win against a weaker Justice League.
Soup managed a tight win over Jack, and staying under the radar, managed to stay attached to star receiver, Bertrand Crawley.
A matchup of The Mercerless Will and book salesman should make for some entertainment.
Soupcan -2.5

BC Comics vs Fantastic Four Teen
Well, there have been some roster changes here. BC adds league leader The Bracht, while Cam sacrifices the Arkham Huynhsylum to the evilest villain of them all: Salary Cap.
Maybe Cam likes the ladies, maybe the ladies like Cam, or the feeling is mutual, but Cam has a strong roster of ladies for this battle. And Cam, too. BC? Maybe I spoke too soon, as JarJar is a 2 time MVP.
Both teams are set up to run and gun, but looking for Cam's speed to make the difference.
Cam -1.5

TREAOS (http://www.theDempsters.ca) vs Jack (this is a family friendly betting column)
Top to bottom a very solid roster for Jack. This week, he gains the Arkham Huynhsylum.
TREAOS ran into a solid Fantastic Four Teens, but picks up Teen Titan Jake Turcotte to bolster their speed. Their ladies might still be the leagues strongest group.
Somehow, I like the generally solid roster of Jack for this. No buns on this talent sandwich, all meat.
Jack - 3.5

Darkwing Huck vs Harvey Denton
Darkwing hosts a number of perenial TPL favoutires, including #1overall pick and Commish, Dr.Matthattan, aka Cardigan America, aka Cardi the Spacedog (eventually something will stick). They also have TPL Ladies goal scoring specialist, Megan Jannsen, and TPL stat machine 4Chan.
Early in his career, Harvey Denton is a successful TPL GM, until his face is splashed with acid. Disfigured, he now lies in hospital recovering.
Darkwing -3.5

Are the stats still worth this much?
Goals, Assists, Ds - +$5k
Hockey Assist - +$2.5k
Throwaways, Drops - -$5k
Win - +$10k

Anything else that factors into salary calculation? (I know the Keeper tax was dropped)

on the spreads:

Joel +5.5 - Superfriends for the win! but laying 5.5 is too heavy for a possession based battle, at least when Norm and Ron aren't going at it.
Soupcan -2.5 - Marcy hasn't really had to trade down much yet and Dahlke yet to play
Cam -1.5 - is it not about time for an MVP performance from TipsDee? Last week's 2G, 1-2A, 3D MVP from Jar on the opposite sideline has to be upped heavily by one of the two in this game. TipsDee for a 6G, 4A, 3D night...
Dempsters +3.5 - looks like a pretty even match up across the board, take the points.
Denton +3.5 in the battle for first place- Denton traded 4 of his top 5 but took on some good replacements and gets an unexpected boost from villain Lex Loather for a few weeks

Thanks for putting this up those involved! I did notice that even on week 3 the "position" column for "last week" is still reading at 140 for everyone, instead of whatever we had last week. Unless I'm reading it wrong or something?

Norm, did the Merry Go Round break, or did it break you?

I know Thompson, G and Steele all had big games. I'd disqualify Steele for a flair fail (biggest ooh of the night on his drop of a BC full field hammer, very rare)

For the ladies, I heard the return of Erin Dahlke was impressive after Marcy had her nicely stashed at no salary for a couple of weeks.

I'd keep the flair around. It was fun banter on what is and isn't flair during the games.

This weeks' spreads, with no rational basis at all.

Soupcanman v Harvey Denton
Harvey had a surprising against a top heavy Darkwing last week. Only a few changes in the middle to satisfy the cap.
Soupcan is a similarly top heavy team.
Denton -2.5

Darkwing Huck v Fantastic Fourteen
What a difference losing Hyunhsanity makes.
After that shocker, it will take a TipsDee breakout to right the ship.
Darkwing -1.5

TREAOS (http://www.thedempsters.ca) vs Kaptain America
K has had a tough schedule this season, and that continues with TREAOS.
Favour TheDempsters.ca by 2.5

Superfriends v donkey face
I got burned betting on Jack last week, but 3 weeks of losses has an advantage, his roster keeps getting better and better.
Superfriends looked good at times last week, and looked terrible at others.
Looking for Superfriends to keep it together and win. -2.5

BC Comics v Joels Justice League
BC's superstar laced roster from last week has kept it together despite the cap penalty.
Right now the combo of Bracht/BC/Steele/BJ/JarJar is looking near unstoppable.
If Joel has a shot, it will come through first time Lady MVP Mel D, and leader of the Air Defense ABB to keep the big guns in check.
BC by 4.5

Good luck to all.

We need one of these... the best part is being able to compare two players' stats by entering their names in the boxes below the graph.

They do all the stats tracking electronically, via an app they developed; tapping each player's name as passes are made. The app takes care of tracking those 5th assists!

We tried an app a few seasons ago and I think there were mixed reviews, which led to the paper version being kept. Either that or everyone was too lazy to learn a new system. Probably the latter.

Record for most drops in a game = 5 (though it was set week 1 of season 1...) so Dario, you can say that you tied the "modern era" record of 4 this week.

Record for most 2nd Assists in a game = 8 by superstar cutter Kate Jardine.

The Watchmen of the TPL, showing pity, allowed Lex Loathor a daypass from Monarkham Asylum to briefly join Harvey Denton in his quest for always winning the disc flip. However, in their haste to come up with Big Brother rules and comic strips, someone forgot to lock to the door. Loathor has been biding his time, waiting for the perfect time to announce his escape from exile.

That time is now, as Lex Loathor has returned to the TPL, joining his trusty gang Soupcanman and Goldeen Paycheque. (until the Watchmen come up with a Big Brother Rule to force them apart)

The TPL Evil Genius has returned. Parity will never be the same.

Of course Lex Loather returns to Soupcan's team... fitting and deserved for waiting 4 weeks to play. I just hope that there is a sufficient cap hit, it was already a nice enough bonus for Marcy to be significantly undercap this week at 3-1 with a solid roster (*cough* not subbing when he only had 7 players last week *cough* tanking *cough*)

Just for the record the record for most records held by a record holder is Kirk - Assists (12) and Ds (7)

Week 4 and 5 Shenanigans

Postby Wartank » Wed Nov 19, 2014 4:26 pm

Sometimes I feel like the TPL is like the duck. Calm above water but paddling furiously underneath. Only the duck knows about all the underwater fury. Or perhaps more appropriately, it's like reaching into a bag of candy on hallowe'en -- you're furiously rummaging around because you know there's so much good stuff in there, but you only have your one little hand, and you can only hold so much candy, and maybe just grabbing as much as you can is better than fruitlessly looking for a whole candybar or a ninja turtle figurine, but anyway why is it so fun in that bag while we have to fight for scraps out here? This league is probably more like the duck, afterall.

So Week 4 brought us a Big Brother rule, which is increasingly becoming the "see how much nonsense the convenors can inflict" rule, that each team had to trade a person from their team who had heretofore never been traded. Thus induced a terrible melee of trying to get the most out of those untouchables that the GMs had been hoarding, all while negotiating with similar stingy would-be trading partners. The Superfriends, in a stunning display of solidarity that makes one wonder why they didn't just register in a normal league, presented the commissioners with a complete set of paperwork for their original rostered folks, a sample of which can be found on the facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/TUCParityLeague

After narrowly avoiding the convenors' messy hands for one week, the Superfriends ran right into the fire of Week 5. This week's BB rule got started a bit early -- the convenors saw some untouchables, saw some undervalued players, and decided to kill two birds with one stone -- an AUCTION. Thus, yesterday the GMs voted on the 1M and 1F player on each team they would most like to see in an auction. Those players with the most votes have been hoisted up on the auctioneer's block and subject to the blind bids of GMs. Each GM will win back 1M and 1F, and their bids will be added to those players' salaries. And in one fell swoops, the nefarious Lex LOAThor will no longer be a base salary player, and some GMs will spend their way into TPL oblivion.

What other excitements await?? Stay tuned for the next time someone picks up the bag of candy and shakes it upside-down. Just what the heck is that darned cool duck up to down there?

Warren, does this mean the GMs are getting a bigger salary cap bump this week than previous weeks??

Since the overall value of the league will increase based on the auctioned players, yes there will be an increase in cap...

However, team salary cap is actually calculated based on the average player salary in the league. Therefore, the team cap increases each week automatically anyway, as players score points and get d's and flair it up to increase their salary. Juuuuuust kidding, flair isn't worth any money. But the point is that although the auction added to salaries, the cap goes up every week anyway, and the auction values will simply be added to the players' "cap impact" salaries.

:cyclops:

What's that, Cyclops?

:cyclops:

Right. Further to this, for anyone interested, the team cap is determined by average league salary + a certain percentage, which decreases each week to compensate for teams become more even, salaries approaching their "true" value, and the absolute amount of cap space increasing as salaries rise.

Are we going to need an 11th team just for Marcy to shed enough cap space after spending so much to keep Max Power together?

I know I called out that Lex Loather needed an appropriate cap hit last week but bumping him all the way to top 5 status might have been a little more than what was needed.

It seemed like the ladies in the auction were all superstar level, guessing that the GMs who kept their bids low will reap the cap room benefit in trading this week.

Random stat record for the week...

With GM Denton's current 5-0 hot streak, he was able to blaze his way to the 20 win club in only 30 games. That's the 2nd best of anyone in the club, trailing only Marcy who had a similar hot streak with TPL Champs House Baerdaytathatastathon (Never figured out how we spelled our team name) in season 3 and got to 20 wins in only 28 games.

On the flip side, cap hoarding GM Don had a real cool streak last season with Empire and now joins the 20 win club in 45 games, to tie the record for longest with Norm. Norm was likely due to his major trade bait whenever his team was over cap... Don was just being cap hoarding Don (yet it's really working for him this season!).

The men's record will only last as long as Nick Pannu doesn't register, he has an astonishing 16 wins in 17 games.

For the ladies, not much doubt that it is another top GM - TipsDee in 30 games.

There has been much chatter about the auction that occurred last week; mainly being:
"Who was taken in the auction?"
"How much did people go for?"
"What was Marcel thinking?"
And so on.

Top 3 female bids were:
1) Kate Jardine ($110,000 to the Real Estate Agents of SHIELD)
2) Katie Buck ($109,999 to Soupcanman)
3) Emma Seaborn ($80,000 to Jack-Ass)

For the men, 3 GM's could not resist Loathor's bargain-basement price, and submitted max bids ($110,000). The Watchmen decided on the best way to break the tie: a live auction! Led by auctioneer young Colin Thompson; Dempster, Don and Marcel bid on who would get to watch Loathor throw away the most hammers. When the dust settled, Marcel bid $225,000 :o bringing his total auction cap hit (including salaries) to $401,782

Top 3 male bids (non-Loathor division) were:
1) Norm Lew ($110,000 to Fantastic Fourteen)
2) Will Mercer ($109,999 to Real Estate Agents of SHIELD)
3) Tommy Jennings ($85,000 to Jack-Ass)

Player movement:
Darkwing Huck lost Will Mercer, Louise Guolla and gained Greg Sheldrake, Mel D (clap clap clap)
Jack-Ass lost Mike Lane, Emma and gained Tommy, retained Emma
Harvey Denton lost Julian Weinrib, Laura Wiese and gained Sarah Floyd, retained Jules as his co-GM
Joel's Justice League lost Norm, Mel D and gained Wangers, Wiese
Soupcanman lost Loat, Erin Dahlke and gained Katie Buck, retained Loat
BC Comics lost his Man of Steele, Kate Jardine and gained Lane, Dahlke
Real Estate Agents lost Tommy, Katie and gained Mercer, Jardine
Superfriends lost Ron Siu, SMF and gained Louise, retained Ron
Fantastic Fourteen lost Sheldrake, Hadiya and gained Norm, Michelle Doell
Kaptain America lost Wangers, Doell and gained Steele, Dee

By the time the trade deadline rolled around, Marcel traded Loathor to JJL for Wangers (because cap hit) and Jack-Ass traded Emma to Superfriends for Louise. Then Marcel traded away Gareth (also because cap hit).

Top 5 cap impact salaries (female):
1) Jar ($368K)
2) TipsDee ($304K)
3) Katie ($297K)
4) Emma ($252K)
5) Mel D ($244)

Top cap impact salaries (male):
1) Tommy ($464K)
2) Norm ($459K)
3) Gareth ($446K) (he wasn't even in the auction!)
4) Steele ($428K)
5) Ron ($397K) (ahead of Loat by 1K)

People have been requesting that we try posting Big Brother rules to the BBS. Well...we can't promise we'll try. But we'll try to try.

So,this week's Big Brother Rule is that there is no Big Brother Rule! After last week's auction the Watchmen are giving Big Brother a week off. But stay tuned for next week.

As penance for no Big Brother Rule, here is a link to the updated public stats:

Random weekly stats... this week is a comparison of how we are trending this season vs seasons 3 & 4 (or the "modern era" of TPL). Year over year the people might change but the stats balance out remarkably well.

Goals per game
- 5 people averaging > 5g/game is a new high (4 in prior seasons) and Gareth maintaining his exact same pace as last season's record 8.3.
- 48 people averaging > 2g/game is down slightly from last season's high of 53

Assists per game
- 11 people averaging >5a/game is a new high (9 in prior seasons) although current leader Norm at 6.8 a/game is down from both seasons (4 - Huynh 8.8, 3 - Norm 7.8)
- 43 people averaging >2a/game is almost level with last season's high of 44

Ds per game
- 48 people averaging >1D/game is a new low from 61 & 51. No one is averaging >3D/game which is the same as season 4 but season 3 had 3 do it for the full season (none of whom are playing this season). Last year's season champ at 2.8 is now a GM and sandbagging his way down to only 1.3... (CAM)

Turnovers per game
- 70 (half the league) averaging >2 turns/game is a new high from 66 & 62

Trade update:
Current male trade leaders at 4 trades - Greg Kramer, Brunetti, Jonathan Lapierre, Calvin Ho. All 4 have winning or even records and combine to be 15-9

Current female trade leader, also at 4 trades - Nomi Caplan

The untraded (adjusting for GMs and their ball and chains... er... handcuffs and > 2 games played) - 28 players - 16 guys, 12 ladies. This is skewed heavily by the Superfriends who account for 3 of each. 3 teams have only 1 player left to trade - Fantastic Four (Daigle), Joelstice (Dario) and Soupcan (Ameet)

Thanks for the update on untraded players, Mr. Murl. A perfect intro for this week's BIG BROTHER RULE.

We want you, yes, YOU, to tell us who is gonna get traded this week.

The link below will take you to a list of every single person in the TPL. Vote for 4 guys and 2 girls that you want to see traded away from their current teams.

The top 6 vote-getters will be traded, whether their GMs like it or not.

You have until midnight on Wednesday to get your votes in, so ... do it.
