The TPL Draft for season 007 is happening this Wednesday . Your mission, should you choose to accept it is play in the most fun league ever.

We expect to see big things from TPL “rookies” / CUC silver medalists Alena Papayanis and Sarah Burke. There are a total of 34 rookies, will they survive in the cutthroat league of TPL? Only time will tell.

Coming out of retirement this season is Defensive Stalwart, Erin McMahon. Currently ranked highest of all Females in Ds per game and 7th overall of any returning player.

Also returning this season is last season’s rookie of the year, Marianne Perko, who currently ranks 2nd in salary earned per game of all returning females.

Great first week of play. The Defense Operations Network (D.O.N.) completed its mission of a week 1 victory over AusTaun Powers: The Spy Who Traded Me. Great job by both teams.

I'd like to take this opportunity to introduce some players you may not know. While both have experience in Parity Leagues, they are both rookies in this league. This is Kevin's triumphant return to Toronto after stops in Ottawa and Saskatoon and Jarrod has been around TUC for a couple of years and decided to throw his disc into the field with TPL.

A quick welcome stats post to the 34 rookies, which is right around the number we had last season. More and more TPL vets are just too slow on registration day… Overall a very low salary week for the guys but the ladies made up for it with 7 of the top 20 salaries earned (and a few of the highest drafted ladies not even playing). Rookie Alyne Azucena (sleeper draft pick by defending fall GM champ Denton) cracked the all-time ladies debut list at #4.

Notable tidbits:
It would take too long to crunch all the data but I would guess that the total of only 3 players over 50K salary earned (Steele, Hooper & Mercer) would be tied for the lowest ever. I found one other week this low (S6,W9), but every other regular season week I checked had at least 6.

Ladies scored 35% of the goals in week 1. The best season long percentage is 30% (season 4)

Only because he’s known as loving the stats I have to put in a quick Dario stat… he set the 2nd lowest total ever for a player with at least 2 offensive scores at -8K. Only the record turnover game by Steele (13 Turns) has him edged out at -8.5K. Expecting a big turnaround next week.

80 players got through their first game without a drop. To keep myself out of this recurring subject, I managed to drop the first pass of the game. For interested dropless players, Padraic Ryan set the record last season scoring 34G before his first drop and holds the "with a drop" ratio record at 41G on 1 drop. Sophomore TPL'er Kirk Macrae is climbing the board, currently at 15G and no drops. On the ladies side Kim Baxter got to 22G before her first drop last season, Bonnie Ketcheson holds the "with a drop" ratio record at 36G on 2 drops. Rookies Aislind and Alyne mentioned above immediately take over as the highest goals without a drop at 6 and 4. Good luck to all the dropless!

We interrupt this regularly scheduled stats post to stroke Andy Milne’s ego.

It is important that we check out the drop ratio for the numerous handlers in the league. Sure, 95% of their catches are easy reset swings… but it is costly when they start dropping them.

With at least 10 games, only Gabriel Isaac remains dropless at 22 Total Assists. Rahil Suleman has 30 Total Assists and no drops on 5 games.

For with a drop, the leader is current GM and known TPL gem Rajiv Seneviratne, then come the slew of Mega Handlers:

Being a GM in TPL can be a very strange obsession. I just keep on wanting more and more data about the players. Started off by basing my decisions on the play on the field, then age/height and now I'm about | | that far away from asking Murl for the historical data on all the previous players... maybe I'll just have another beer instead.

Hello fellow TPLers.

Before we get into this week's casualty report, a little note on how trading works in TPL if you were not aware. If you just want to get to the good stuff, just scroll down and ignore the explanation below.

1. Each player has an individual salary which is comprised of your starting salary ($100k) plus goals ($5k each) plus Assists ($5K each) plus 2nd Assists ($3K each) plus D's ($5K each) minus Throwaways ($3.5K each) minus Receiver Errors ($3.5K each) plus Wins ($5K) plus adjustments.
We won't get into how adjustments are calculated, but for now, they are a combination of your draft position, salary earned by subs and secret discounts.

2. The salary for each player is totaled on each team to give a total salary for that team.

3. Every Thursday, the TPL Convenors set the cap for the week based on the total salary earned by all players in the league. It is the responsibility of all GMs to make trades to get their total team salary underneath the cap. Typically, teams that win will be over cap, and need to trade for lower salary players to "get under".

4. To make things more interesting, the TPL Convenors also create a BBR (Big Brother Rule). The BBR is a condition that each GM must satisfy in order to avoid penalization on Monday.

5. The trade deadline is every Monday at noon for each GM to "get under" and satisfy the BBR. If this deadline is not met, the offending teams are at the Convenors' mercy as to what trades will be made to satisfy the conditions.

6. Teams are updated, games are played, and the cycle repeats itself!
