I came up with a new one (to me, at least)

Handler throws one of those outside-in flicks down the sideline. While the disc is out of bounds, the defensive player attempts a deflection, but due to the spin of the disc and the wind, the disc returns in bounds and is caught by the offensive player. Play on, or out of bounds and turnover?

I would guess play on.

I figure the following two apply:

UPA 11th Ed. IX.B wrote:The out-of-bounds area consists of the ground which is not in-bounds and everything in contact (direct or indirect) with it except for players. Any non-players other than observers are considered part of the out-of-bounds area.

UPA 11th Ed. IX.E wrote:A disc becomes out-of-bounds when it first contacts the out-of-bounds area, contacts an out-of-bounds offensive player, or is caught by an out-of-bounds defensive player.

According to these two, I would say the offense retains possession and play on.

The word "caught" by the defensive player clinches it. A deflection by a defensive player out of bounds does not make the disc out of bounds like it does in basketball or football. Play on!

Thanks, Evan.
