2013 Mixed: Union, Zen, MMV, Ultimate Experience: Toronto
2013 State of the UNION
UNION is back and looking for a little more hardware. Last year, we were thrilled to take home a silver medal at CUC's, buoyed by the support and love from back home. This year we aim to re-take the podium, with the overall goal being to secure a bid to represent Toronto at WUCC in Italy, in 2014. UNION will continue to represent the Ultimate Experience as the Toronto-region premiere mixed team.
We are looking for highly skilled and experienced players who are passionate about competing at an elite level, pushing themselves to improve, and contributing to a tight-knit and cohesive team. We will be practicing once a week as a team (Tuesdays) and expecting players to adhere to their own regimen of fitness and skills work. We will also continue to contribute to our system teams, including support at Zen's practices & consideration to Zen players to fill temporary roster/practice spots.
We will be holding open tryouts, and plan on taking a 23-25 person roster.
Our proposed tournament schedule is as follows:
• (optional) TUF (Toronto): May 11-12
• Bell Crack (Philadelphia): May 18-19
• Poultry Days (Versailles, OH): June 15-16
• Regionals (TBD): Early July
• Motown Throwdown (Detroit): July 27-28
• Canadian Ultimate Championships (Vancouver): August 15-18

ZEN was conceived in 2004, and since its inception has become a stepping stone for an abundance of touring players across all levels and divisions. Zen attended Nationals in 2006 and 2011. They are looking to return to the National stage and 2013 will see Zen blend good competition, fun and improvement (both as a team and individually) into one.
The ideal Zen player will be someone who works hard on the field in games and in practice; and then goes out to be the life of the party. They are looking to consistently put out solid performances and constantly improve our results at major tournaments.
Tournament Schedule: TBD
For questions, please contact: zen@playwithspirit.com
MARS MEET VENUS (MMV) was founded in 2003. MMV is focused on introducing players to touring, as an opportunity to develop their skills and knowledge in a friendly and fun setting. Over the years, many players have successfully moved up the ranks to play at higher levels in the open, womens, and masters divisions as well as within mixed.
MMV practices will remain open to all, and players will have a chance to earn a spot on the tournament roster over the course of the season. The focus of this team is playing some seriously fun ultimate. MMV always wins the party!
Tournament Schedule: TBD
If you have any questions, please contact: mmv@playwithspirit.com
WHAT ABOUT TRYOUTS?
As per previous years, open tryouts for the UE mixed teams will occur concurrently. Tryout dates/locations are still TBD, but we will do our best to not conflict with other divisions. We will post our tryout form once details are finalized.

Apologies for the change, but we were misinformed about our field time on Sunday, May 5. It is actually noon to 3pm (and has been changed appropriately below).
Please note that we hope to have Union finalized before the May 5 tryout. If so, this tryout will be for Zen/MMV only.

Hi Darrel,
We request that every player pay beforehand through the electronic system. This avoids us having to take the time and effort to collect money at tryouts, not to mention the effort of managing the money.
You were sent an email upon completing your registration. You will find a link to pay within that email. If you have lost or misplaced that email, please send an email to union@playwithspirit.com.
Thanks!

Union: Team Identity
We hope that everyone is excited and prepared for this Saturday's tryout! Here is a little more insight into Union's direction for 2013 in terms of vision, important team attributes, & expectations.
Goals:
CUC podium > WUCC Bid
To excel at space team as a team
Philosophy:
Union is an elite Ultimate team whose bonds off the field bolster our strength on it. Our efforts will be driven and focused by our core values of Respect, Attitude, and Work.
RESPECT is for our teammates, that they will do what they need to do to make us stronger, and vice versa. It’s for the captains, who have a tough job and need your support as much as you need theirs. It’s open communication amongst the whole team and having the strength to share & to listen. It’s for our opponents, so that we compete fairly and underestimate no one. It’s for yourself, so that you bring your best, every time.
ATTITUDE is in your approach to the game - playing with intent and fierce determination. It’s about fostering healthy relationships with your captains and teammates. It’s about having the humility and awareness to self-evaluate. It’s striving to be a better player, so that you look at everything as a learning experience -- feedback, your opponents, your teammates -- so that every time you step on the field you’re better than before.
WORK is about having the industriousness and fortitude to persevere through the above. It’s a reminder of how there is simply no substitution for sweat and effort. Work is the commitment we make to each other, because with it and it alone we can win games, inspire teammates, and strengthen one another.
Commitments:
Tournaments: Our tournaments this year reflect the desire to seek out the best competition in mixed ultimate in the North American northeast region: TUF (optional), Bell Crack, Poultry Days, Regionals, Motown Throwdown, CUC
Practices: Tuesdays @ location TBD
Other: All Union players are expected to plan and adhere to supplemental training outside of team events. These activities should address skill development, mental/game preparedness, body maintenance, and responsible nutrition.
Any questions can be directed to union@playwithspirit.com, or asked of any of the captains or leadership before/after (or at times during) our tryouts.
