2014 Women's Tryouts

Ladies,

Please see the tryout dates below for Toronto women's touring teams:

Sunday, April 27th @ Downsview 9am-1pm - Lotus/Lily/Terra (women's masters)
Sunday, May 4th @ Downsview 8am-11am - Capitals/Lotus/Lily/Terra
Monday, May 5th @ Monarch 9pm-11pm - Lotus/Lily/Terra
Thursday, May 8th @ Monarch 9pm-11pm - Terra practice

You are encouraged to attend all time slots that are associated with the team(s) you are trying out for.

Please come 30 minutes prior to the tryout time to warm-up PRIOR to the time slot.

- Bring your own water! We will not be providing water.

- Please bring a dark and a light NUMBERED jersey.

- Please pay online, we will not accept cash at the fields.

TERRA

Toronto's women's master's team will be returning in 2014! Terra claimed the silver medal in Canada's inaugural women's master's division in 2013 and will be seeking the gold in 2014. Terra is passionate about keeping women in the ultimate scene while support the development of women's ultimate in Toronto.

The women's master's cutoff age is 30, so if you turn 30 before December 31, 2014, you are eligible.

Leadership:

- Natalie Fitzgerald will return as a captain, and up to two other captains will be voted in by the team once the team has been selected.
- Alena Papayanis, Carla Difilippo and Mandy Wintink will join Natalie on the selection committee.

Tryouts:

- Tryouts (See the post above regarding tryout information)
- The anticipated roster size is approximately 21.
- Terra will endeavour to select the team by Wednesday, May 7th.

Practices & Tournaments:

- Terra will practice once per week on Thursdays, starting May 8th
- Terra will compete in the Women's Master's division in the CUC Championship Series
- Due to practicing only once a week, players are expected to demonstrate a high-level of commitment the team

Schedule: To be confirmed post team-selection, but may include:

- Tryouts: April 27th (9am-1pm), May 4th (8am-11am), May 5th (9pm-11pm)
- TUF, Toronto, May 10-11
- Practice, Toronto, May 25th (9am-1pm)
- One-day local tourney (TBD early June)
- Jazz Fest, Montreal, June 28-29
- Practice, Toronto, July 6th (9am-1pm)
- Regionals, TBD, July 12-13
- No Borders, Ottawa, July 26-27
- CUC Championship Series, Waterloo, Aug 14-16

CAPITALS

This year, 2014, marks one that will be dedicated to developing talent within the region to attain and maintain a strong group of players gaining elite-level experience playing in top tournaments. Capitals will continue to participate in the USAU Pro Flight series this coming summer and subsequently pursue the USA Triple Crown Championship in the fall. With next year’s Canadian championships being a qualifying tournament to represent Canada at WUGC2016, Capitals has the short-term goal of pursuing Gold once again at CUC2015 and earning the opportunity to represent as Team Canada on the international stage.

Leadership:

- Kathryn Pohran and Darcy Drummond will return as captains, with an additional captain to be voted in following team selection.
- Ex-Capital veterans will join Kathryn and Darcy on the selection committee.


Tryouts:

- Tryouts (See the post above regarding tryout information)
- The anticipated roster size will be larger in the summer series to develop players while the fall tournament roster will be shortened.
- Capitals will look to have the 2014 team selected by Wednesday, May 7th.

Practices & Tournaments:

- Capitals will practice every other week inner-city on Thursdays, and have 3 practice weekends between June and October
- Capitals will compete in the Triple Crown Series in the USA Ultimate Series
- Due to practicing every other week, players are expected to demonstrate a high-level of commitment the team
- Team meetings to take place online as needed

Schedule: To be confirmed post team-selection, but may include:

- Tryouts: Ottawa May 2 (530pm-730pm), Toronto May 4th (8am-11am)
SUMMER SERIES
- Practice Weekend, likely GTA, either May 31-June 1 or June 7-8
- Boston Invitational, Devens, MA, June 21-22
- Virginia, July 12-13
- Practice Weekend, likely GTA August 23-24
- Santa Cruz CA, August 30-31
FALL SERIES
- Regionals, Devens, MA, (one of the last two weekends in September)
- Practice Weekend (TBD after USAU schedule is set)
- Triple Crown Championship, Frisco TX, October 16-19

The first tryout is on April 27th at 9am at Downsview (Lotus, Lily and Terra). Be cleated and ready to go at 9am (that probably means show up for 8:30am)
