Ultimate Canada Announcements
Bring Your Disc to Work Day!

This year, Ultimate Canada is starting the first annual “Bring Your Disc to Word Day” to promote the sport. On Thursday, September 16th, 2010, Ultimate Canada is encouraging Ultimate players from across the country to "bring your disc to work" and promote the sport. This is a low cost way for Ultimate communities to raise the profile of the sport in their community and help connect people who play the sport. In addition to the event itself, we are also holding a photo contest sponsored by DareDevil Discs and Discraft.

Information about the event is available on the UC Website and their Facebook page.

Great Canadian Ultimate Game

Many thanks to all of the communities that participated in the 2010 Great Canadian Ultimate Game. We were able to raise over $8,000 for some great charities!

ODSA Seeking Volunteers for Championships Committee & Board of Directors

The Ontario Disc Sports Association is putting out a call for volunteers to all ultimate clubs across Ontario, to grow the sport we all love and raise Ontario ultimate to a higher level:

Ontario Ultimate Championships (OUC) Committee
Strong and vibrant provincial championship tournaments will spur further growth in the sport of ultimate across Ontario and raise the general level of play. Accordingly, we are looking for 5 volunteers from across the province to determine the parameters under which the provincial championships will be held. The committee will consider factors such as timing, eligibility, divisions, location & level of play. The committee will meet by teleconference and email and submit a draft report to the ODSA Board of Directors at the end of October. Representation is sought from each of the following groups: small clubs; large clubs; northern Ontario; women; the touring community. If you are interested in helping out, send an email with your name and a brief background statement, including the constituencies you would represent, to president@ondisc.org.

ODSA Board of Directors
The ODSA annual general meeting will be held on Saturday November 6th.

At this time, the terms of 5 directors will expire and these vacancies on the Board of Directors will need to be filled. We are looking for energetic, dedicated, individuals who have the time to take on specific projects or committee assignments. We are in particular need of women candidates and expertise in human resources and corporate governance. Additional information and nomination forms can be found at www.ondisc.org. The nomination deadline is mid-October. Please address questions to Chris Lowcock - ed@ondisc.org.

August Volunteer of the Month – Carla DiFilippo

Carla DiFilippo is the TUC Volunteer of the Month for August 2010. Carla is a veteran Lotus/Capitals player who, alongside her touring team commitments, has put in countless hours coaching the Juniors touring team Overdrive this summer. Carla was a big factor in helping Overdrive reach the podium (Silver medal!) at the National Championships. This is in addition to coaching her own high school ultimate frisbee team (and volleyball team) and serving on the Ultimate Canada Juniors Development Committee. Carla has also contributed to other TUC events like the Lotus Intermediate Tournament in the Spring.

Thanks Carla for all of your efforts in supporting youth Ultimate and the TUC!

Support your Club by volunteering, it’s how TUC was born and how it thrives today. Contact volunteers@tuc.org for more information.

Each V.O.M. will receive $50 Scally’s Dollars that can be used towards any purchase at Scallywags.

Seeking Memorabilia

Our members are the lifeblood of the club, but it is after all a team sport. The gala event will include displays of memorabilia from teams both past and present. Trophies will be on display, showing the names of past winners, but we are also looking to include your custom discs, jerseys, hats, short shorts, sweat bands, old photos/videos and anything else TUC related.
