Here we go! Summer league begins next week. Here are the basics to get you going:

• each TUC member is sent a welcome membership letter; if you have not yet received it you can view the letter here.
• once your first game is posted in Leaguerunner (My Games), please note the game location and start time. Most start times are 6:30pm, although the odd game at a premier field may be later. Game start times are not the be-all, end-all and we understand that getting around the city can be tough. Try to start your games by 6:45pm and definitely no later than 7pm, or else the opposing team can apply penalty points if they have a full roster and you do not. Once your game concludes, both team captains go home and enter the scores in Leaguerunner, once they do so the score is posted and reflected in the standings. Next games will be clustered in groups of 2-3 games at a time. This is because we use a ratings ladder system that moves your team up or down in the standings dependent on game results. • games go to 17 points, but you must win by two points (or hard cap of 19). Games can end earlier due to time cap or upon agreement of the captains (ie. inclement weather).
• gender ratio is 4:3 (male:female) but teams can go 3:4 with the pulling team matching the receiving team. Hat teams that are very short on female players should be allowed to play 5:2 – use SPIRIT in all cases.

• finally, weÂ’re still seeking individual players (especially women!) for a Thursday Hat Team. If you are interested or know of someone who may be, please contact the TUC office ASAP.

Have you been looking to take your game to the next level? Or are you new to the game and want to give it a try? Well, TUC has what youÂ’re looking for with its 7 Week Clinic League.

The TUC Clinic League will begin Monday May 25, 2009 from 6:30 PM to dusk at Caledonia Park (Caledonia and Keele). It will run on consecutive Mondays for 7 weeks and you will get expert instructions on improving your skills, basic team concepts, zones (offence & defense), strategies, rules and much more. Each week will provide a clinic on a specific topic for the first hour, which will then be followed by a scrimmage to practice those concepts.

You need to be a TUC Member in order to register for this league and registration cost is $35 for all 7 weeks. You can register online now in our registration section (note if you are having difficulties registering please review our How To Register page).

Register online now to participate in the 2nd Annual Spirit Hat Tournament!!!!! All TUC members are invited to the Spirit Hat Tournament on Saturday May 30, at Sunnybrook Park. The Spirit Hat tournament is an opportunity to gain an in depth understanding of Spirit of the Game (SOTG) which is vital to the game. It will include SOTG discussion and explanation, demonstrations, a FREE BBQ LUNCH for participants, and of course some games! The tournament will also feature some amazing prizes courtesy of Steam Whistle and VC, with the grand-daddy of them all: one tournament Spirit MVP will receive a 5-day dog sled trip for two courtesy of www.borealjourneys.com. This adventure is valued at over $3000!!!

Registration for the Spirit Hat Tournament is now open at www.tuc.org. The event is FREE to TUC members and $15 per non-TUC member.

Ah-Hoy ladies and gents! The Steam Whistle Summer Kickoff Bash will take place on Saturday, May 30, 2009 after the Spirit Tourney. There are already 120 tickets sold (!!!) and only about 50 remaining. DonÂ’t miss this opportunity for trip-tastic, boat-bonding amongst the islands of Toronto Harbour. Support your club, kick it with your huck-buddies and take in the high seas hi-jinx. View the poster to see more details.

Tickets are available for online purchase at www.tuc.org. Must be 19 years of age or older. Open to TUC members and their friends. Buy your tickets before May 22!

TJSL starts in a month! This league is for youth aged 18 and under (recommended ages 15-18). It is co-ed, open to all skill levels, and it focuses on skill development and game play. Players can play with their friends and depending on the skill level of the players, we can adapt the leagues accordingly to balance competition and make it fun.

We will host 3 locations and days of the week for TJSL. TJSL West will take place at Buttonwood Park on Tuesdays, TJSL North on Earl Haig SS on Wednesdays and TJSL East at St. Patrick CS on Thursdays. Start time is 6:30pm and runs until 8:30pm each night. We will have on site coaches who coordinate skill learning and games.

Cost to participate is FREE so long as you are a registered TUC Junior member with completed waiver. Register online now for your TUC Junior membership as well as for the TJSL. Visit the TUC Juniors page for information and pass along this poster to those interested!

TUC is also hosting a Juniors Open House for youth aged 8-14, on Saturday June 13 at Sunnybrook Park, 11am – 1pm. View this poster for more details and pass along to your friends!

TUC needs more Volunteers!!!! We can always use help in just about every area of interest, but here are three key spots where we need you to chip in:

Juniors Coaches: this year we have expanded our Juniors Leagues to three nights per week; with the increased program demands we are seeking additional coaches. Volunteer coaches must commit to one night per week from June to August. The program will run Tuesdays in the west (Buttonwood Park), Wednesday in the north (Earl Haig) and Thursdays in the east (St. Patrick CS). This is a great opportunity to earn volunteer points, work with the up and coming stars of Toronto ultimate, and have a lot of fun! Contact juniors@tuc.org for more info.

Web Team: our webmaster needs help in evolving the TUC web site to better service the needs of our members, and he is seeking assistance in two key areas: 1) improvement of scheduling algorithms for regional preferences and eventually playoff and tournament scheduling. PHP knowledge is a benefit but not required. 2) jazzing up the TUC site visuals with graphic design that does not compromise our current functionality. An understanding of template-driven layout methods (e.g. Smarty, Joomla, Drupal or, even better, Zikula) and CSS-based presentation would be a big asset here. If you're familiar with adapting sites for mobile browsing, that would be a nice bonus.

Spirit: as we continue to review, promote and reward Spirit we need a driven Spirit committee to lead the charge. Do you believe in Spirit? Want to see Spirit of the Game improved league-wide? This is your opportunity to help make that happen.

The TUC Summer Experience is back for its third season! The tournament will take place June 13-14 at beautiful Sunnybrook Park. It will be a 2-day co-ed tournament for TUC teams and individuals, as well as teams and individuals from other leagues who wish to participate. Note there will not be a touring division this year.

The level of play will roughly be intermediate, but is completely dependent on who signs up - all are welcome! The purpose of the tournament is have fun and be social with other teams, while working on skills and plays within your own team. So if you end up playing against a much stronger or weaker team, you can use the opportunity to develop your team in certain areas. Simply make the best of the Summer Experience!

Open to all TUC Co-Ed Teams and players (limited spots)
Team Fee: $125 per TUC team, $200 per non-TUC team
Individual Fee: $15 per TUC member who does not have a team, or $25 per non-TUC member. You will be placed on a 'hat' team with other individual signups. Guaranteed minimum of 5 games, plus basic tournament amenities.
