SUMMER LEAGUE IS ON!

Welcome to another exciting season of Summer League! Remember to ALWAYS PLAY WITH SPIRIT and enjoy this great game and all that the Toronto Ultimate Club has to offer. A reminder to all players:

  • Click on ‘My Games’ on the site (you must be logged in) to see your schedule, as well as team and league info
  • please do your best to be at your games on time.
  • when in doubt due to weather, check the TUC banner at 3:30pm on the website. We’ll either post a ‘Games Are On’ blurb below the banner, or we’ll post a big ‘Games Are Canceled’ banner when we choose to cancel games. If website is down or you’ll still in doubt, contact your captain and captains contact your convenor. Remember, WHEN IN DOUBT GO TO THE GAME! Captains can make the call on-site during inclement weather.
  • always bring a light and dark t-shirt in case you need to switch colours
  • bring lots of water and stay hydrated!
  • respect the fields and those in the community: you represent our great Club!
  • feel free to check our Captains Meeting presentation
  • did we mention play with Spirit? Show respect to your team and your opponents. Don’t argue or fight, but rather call or contest... and try to be nice about it! If you aren’t sure of the rule, back to thrower and play on, and discuss it during a break.

Games will typically be scheduled in 2-3 week chunks. This allows for our ratings ladder system to more evenly balance team competition. Don’t worry if you don’t see your July game yet, just plan on playing on your night and the games will keep coming!

Clinic League Session #2 for Beginner & Intermediate Players

Have you been looking to take your game to the next level? Or are you new to the game and want to give it a try? Well, TUC has what you’re looking for with its 5 Week Clinic League! In 2010 TUC is offering 2 separate levels of Clinic Leagues, the returning Beginner's Clinic and the all new Intermediate Clinic League.

The TUC Clinic Leagues will run on Monday evenings from 6:30 PM to dusk at Sir Winston Churchill Park. Our current session #1 runs from May 31 to June 28. Session #2 begins July 5 and will run on consecutive Mondays for 5 weeks and you will get expert instructions on improving your skills, basic team concepts, zones (offence & defense), strategies, rules and much more. Each week will provide a clinic on a specific topic for the first hour, which will then be followed by a scrimmage to practice those concepts.

You need to be a TUC Member in order to register for this league and registration cost is $25 for all 5 weeks. Signup in our registration section - registration for Session #2 is now OPEN (note if you are having difficulties registering please review our How To Register page).

If you cannot attend the second 5 week clinic, don't worry because our third 5-week session will begin August 9. You can also attend multiple rounds if you wish, although the information covered will be similiar and you would have to pay the additional session fee.

Also, you can certainly participate in our regular 16 week summer league on another night if you wish to do so, and use this clinic league as your 'practice'. Membership and league fees would apply.

Spirit Hat Tournament Recap

The Spirit Hat Tournament took place on Saturday May 29th at Sunnybrook Park. Thanks to our amazing Spirit mentors and all of our participants for an outstanding day! Each team played 4 hours of Ultimate in the gorgeous summer day at Sunnybrook Park. The most Spirited Team was SNAP CRACKLE POP led by captain Heather Gilmour. Spirit MVPs from each teams were: Dan Harrison (Toucan Sam), Ron Waisbord (Snap Crackle Pop), Mathieu Rochon (Trix), Eric Spidle (Cap'N Crunch), Stephen Little (Tony the Tiger), and John Chan (Buzz Bee). May Volunteer of the Month – Heather Gilmour

Heather Gilmour is our Volunteer of the Month of May 2010. Heather was one of our outstanding Spirit mentors at the recent TUC Spirit Hat Tournament. Her goal for the tournament was to challenge her fellow players, ‘to be more Spirited than me’ which resulted in her team winning the Top Spirit Team title! She displayed tremendous sportsmanship and leadership throughout the event, going out of her way to make the event fun for all and effectively communicating the value of Spirit and its importance to Ultimate. This was Heather’s 2nd stint as a Spirit mentor for the event; as well she is a regular volunteer and participant in other events and leagues. Thanks Heather! Be like Heather and support your Club by volunteering. Contact volunteers@tuc.org for more information.

Are you interested in volunteering for TUC committees or helping out with player development? Contact volunteers@tuc.org.

Each V.O.M. will receive $50 Scally’s Dollars that can be used towards any purchase at Scallywags.

TUC Membership Discs

Membership discs were distributed at the Captains Meeting, for all players who were confirmed on their team rosters by May 18. Look for your captain who should be distributing packages. Note if you play on multiple teams only one captain has your package (the earlier night of the week). If your captain does not have a package for you, you can pick yours up at the TUC office or upcoming TUC events.

The TUC membership disc is a commemorative 30th Anniversary Disc, brought to you by Discraft. It features the names of original and ‘old school’ TUC teams, as well as long tenured teams of the past decade. Design by Hilary Leung.
