2012 Catch the Spirit Tournament

The Toronto Ultimate Club hosted the 8th annual Catch the Spirit High School Indoor Ultimate Tournament on Thursday Feb 23rd & Friday Feb 24th, 2012. This celebration of Ultimate emphasized the spirit of the game, skill development and balanced competition for all 27 teams involved over the two days. It was a great opportunity to teach the game of Ultimate and get teams warmed up for the upcoming school season.

The tournament moved back to The Downsview Hangar for 2012. Thursday featured the B division (beginner teams/players) with a field of 15 teams. Friday showcased 12 A division schools (Intermediate teams/players).

All games were continuous-play (Speedpoint) format and teams played 6-on-6 mixed gender (rather than 7's) with a gender ratio of 4:2 boys to girls.

We had an on-site physiotherapist/first-aid person and trophies/prizes were awarded to the two division champions and most spirited teams, which inclued gift certificates from VC Ultimate.

B Division - Thursday, February 23rd

Congratulations to Bowmanville who went undefeated throughout the tournament on route to capturing the B Division title over North Toronto in the final.

A Division - Friday, February 24th

Congratulations to Northern Secondary, the well deserved winners of the A Division, edging out Westview in a very exciting final.

TUC also congratulates Clarington Central who were the SPIRIT CHAMPIONS from the A Division.
